Official trailer released upcoming action movie from Open Road MoviesIn which Gerard Butler appears as an undercover CIA agent who must find a way to escape from hostile territory after his mission has been exposed to the enemy. The project is owned by longtime Butler collaborator Rick Roman Waugh.
To Butler (Plane) are joined by Navid Negahban, Ali Fazal, Travis Fimmel and Elnaaz Noruzi. The film is due in theaters on May 26th.
Directed by Kandaharis Rick Roman Waugh, who co-wrote the screenplay with former military intelligence officer Mitchell LaFortune. It is based on LaFortune's real-life experience in Afghanistan during the Snowden leaks. Filming took place in Saudi Arabia
"The film features an undercover CIA operative named Tom Harris who is assigned to the Middle East," the synopsis reads. “An intelligence leak dangerously exposes his secret mission and exposes his secret identity. Trapped in the heart of hostile territory, Harris and his interpreter must fight their way out of the desert to a mining site in Kandahar, Afghanistan, while eluding the elite Special Forces hunting them down.
The film is being produced by Butler and Alan Siegel for G-Base, Basil Ivanik of Thunder Road, Brendon Boyea and Erica Lee and Christian Mercury of the Capstone Group, with Capstone and MBC Studios funding the project. David Haring, Scott LaState, Ruzanna Kegeyan, Andrea Dimity and Jonathan Furman are executive producers.
