Netflix Announces New The Witcher: Blood Origin Series
Netflix has announced a brand new six-episode series called Blood Origin, which is supposed to explain the origin of the very first Witcher.
In 2019, Netflix released The Witcher, a show based on the popular book and video game series of the same name. Although it was more based on the first rather than the second Witcher, it still contained several references to the game series, making it appealing to fans of both.
While its success eventually led to the unsurprising announcement of a second season due sometime in 2021 (though with everything going on in the world, who knows if that will be the case), it looks like the streaming service is trying to capitalize. from the success of the series in every possible way.
Earlier today, Netflix announced a new spin-off miniseries titled The Witcher: Blood Origin. Although details about the show are scarce, the six-episode prequel is set to take place 1200 years before the main film's production and will explain the origins of the first Witcher.
Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will be on the show in some capacity. While de Barra wrote one episode of the main series back in 2019, Hissrich was the show's host, so it's great for fans to see her return in some capacity.
Unfortunately, no other plot details have been announced for the show. Even though the games don't have the same continuity as the shows or even the books, they have gone a bit deeper into the origins of the Witchers in the past.
1200 years before Geralt of Rivia, the worlds of monsters, men and elves merged into one, and the first Witcher came to be.

Announcing The Witcher: Blood Origin, a 6 part live-action The Witcher spin-off series from Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.
A tweet from Netflix mentions the 1200 event, which merged different worlds into one, which is very similar to the "Spheres Connect" event in lore, when the multiverse combination merged into one world, bringing together all the monsters from each world.
As for the witchers themselves, according to the legends in the game, they were created by the magicians Alzur and Cosimo Malaspina. Unfortunately, not much is known about their creation, so it will be interesting to see what the show comes up with to explain their origins. Hopefully you'll find out more soon, however given the fact that we don't have a release date, this may take a while.
