Demon Slayer: Endless Train Breaks Records

The full-length of the popular anime about little fighters with evil spirits Demon Slayer: Infinite Train set a record in Russia.

The anime "Demon Slayer: Endless Train", based on the animated series of the same name (better known in Russia under the name "The Blade that Cuts Demons"), mastered 51,8 million rubles during its debut weekend, which allowed it to take 3rd place in the rating. Taking into account the preliminary screenings, which started a couple of days earlier, the cartoon already has 55,6 million rubles in its assets. "Demon Slayer" showed the best starting result among anime in our country. Before that, "Mary and the Witch's Flower" and "Child of the Weather" excelled in Russia: their fees for the same period amounted to 22,509 million rubles and 22,532 million rubles, respectively. At the same time, the fairy tale "Mary and the Witch's Flower" still remains the highest-grossing anime in the Russian box office, having mastered a total of 87,2 million rubles. Given the positive sundress, the Demon Slayer has every chance to outperform the competitor in the coming weekend.

According to the results of the last weekend, the first place in the Russian box office was predictably taken by the action movie "Fast and the Furious 9", which in our country was released on screens a month earlier than in the USA. The debut weekend brought the film 451,8 million rubles, and the fees for five days of hire (the ninth Fast and the Furious appeared in theaters not on Thursday, but on Wednesday) reached 552,2 million rubles. At the same time, for the period from May 19 to May 23, 1,5 million people watched it - this is about a million less than the audience of the opening weekend of Fast and Furious 8. The average attendance was 28 people per session - this is the second place in the list; the first was the anime "Demon Slayer: Infinite Train" - 29 people per session. Even despite the current restrictions on the occupancy of the halls, this is not at all the result that the cinemas and the distributor were counting on. For comparison, the average occupancy of movie theaters on the first weekend of Fast and the Furious 8 was 50 people per session, and its debut fees were 704,2 million rubles.

On the second line, having lost one position compared to last week, was the family movie "Peter Rabbit 2". The second weekend brought the film another 54,4 million rubles, which is about 50% less than what was earned 7 days before. The total box office of the second part of the Peter Rabbit film series after 10 days of release is 166,4 million rubles. For comparison, the first "Peter Rabbit" received 393,4 million rubles for the same period. The lack of positive dynamics and such a lag behind the original suggests that the audience has lost interest in the story.

Cartoon "Rebellious Spirit" studio DreamWorks Animation finished the first weekend on the fourth line of the Russian box office - at the start he was able to earn only 28,8 million rubles. At the same time, his attendance was one of the worst in the top 10 - only 9 people per session (this is the 7th place in the rating). Experts expected a much greater return from a family-oriented project - at least 45-50 million rubles. In fact, the audience that the authors were counting on simply did not pay attention to him. We are talking about the modern generation, which in 2002 watched the animated film "Spirit: Soul of the Prairie" in cinemas in XNUMX ("Rebellious Spirit" is its plot offshoot).

The horror film "Saw: Spiral" continues to disappoint with its results: following the results of the second weekend, it managed to master another 24,7 million rubles, the total fees after 11 days amount to 116,3 million rubles. The total box office of the predecessor of Spiral, the film Saw 8, amounted to 273,1 million rubles (after 57 days at the box office). For the same 11 days, the eighth part of the film series received 236,1 million rubles.
