Walkthrough Elden Ring Mt.Gelmir

Welcome to the Elden Ring walkthrough for the Mount Gelmir region! Mount Gelmir is located in the northwest corner of the Altus Plateau and is primarily used as an overland route to Volcano Manor. There's one boss along the way (which you can completely ignore if you want) and then an important boss in the side area of the Shadowed Castle, tucked right between Mount Gelmir and the Altus Plateau, which awards a trophy/achievement as well as one of the Legendary weapons.

Trip to the estate of volcanoes
The main goal of passing through Mount Gelmir is to get to the Volcano Estate. The main way to make this journey is to follow the trail around the northern tip of the Altus Plateau and then cross the rope bridge across the valley east of the Writheblood ruins.

Just past the rope bridge on the other side, you can find the first fertile spot in the area.
Bridge of Lawlessness
Follow the route to the north indicated by the guide. If you stay at this low level, you will eventually reach a dead end where you cannot progress any further. To continue up the mountain, you need to keep an eye on the left side of the path, not far from where a group of two Kidnappers hang out, there is a ladder leading up the cliff. You can spot this if you lean against the left wall and look at the two torches on either side.
Make the long climb to the top, making sure you don't hang around the ground for too long or the Virgin Abductors might knock you off your feet.
Turn left immediately at the top of the stairs to get closer to the cemetery along with another place of grace.
First campsite on Mount Gelmir
To continue up the mountain, head northwest to the watchtower. You are going to walk past it, then over some rocks to a part of the mountain further north.

The next cliff has another ladder that you need to climb to continue, but watch out for the Grafted Offspring that will fall from above (you can fight him or ignore him and just climb the ladder.

At the top of the first staircase, there is another staircase to the right and left. The left side leads to the merchant so you can go there, but any route will eventually lead to the top of the mountain after the second stairs.
At the top, continue west over another rope bridge.
On the other hand, you can find the next place of grace.
Ninth campsite on Mount Gelmir
You now need to climb one more level to the top of the mountain before you can reach the next section leading to the Volcano Estate. You can go up the stairs if you want, but it's much faster to just use the Spirit Spring directly to the right of it.
Shooting Star Adult Beast
Reward: 21000 runes, 1x Grim Smithing Stone [6]x5 Smithing Stone [6]x10 Piece of Gravity Stone, 1x Shooting Star Beast Jaw
This is a 1:1 replica of the regular Shooting Star Beast found in Caelida - Sellia's Crystal Tunnel, using the same moveset. The adult version is actually easier because you are in a big arena and can ride your mount, which makes this boss pretty easy to defeat magic spells. Drive around him in a big circle, always keep moving and fire spells at him repeatedly. Stay as far away as you can, to the sweet spot where your spells can hit him, but he can't hit you. When he approaches you, dash to the side to speed up.
If you decide you don't want to deal with him, you can simply run past him, this won't stop you from advancing through the area. Whether you're struggling with it or not, head to the west side of the mountaintop, where there's a large section leading up from the mountaintop. Go to the end and jump into the section just below.
Before you get too close to the estate, go to the northern part of the area where you can find a phantom tree with golden seed.
You can now head south to Volcano Estate. The path on the left leads to a door, but you must first follow the path on the right leading under the area to grab the area map.
You can find the map stele and Map: Mount Gelmir right in front of the area with hanging bodies just watch out for a giant hand that can grab you as you get close.

You can then walk a short distance past the fire in the middle of the path to find another place of grace.
Lawless Road
Head back up the path and back to Volcano Manor.
Hanging in front of the door is a troll that you can fight if you want, or just run past it straight to the front door of the castle (nothing unique drops when you kill a troll).
Climb the stairs inside and go through the doors to enter Volcano Manor.
Volcano Manor
Inside, on the bottom floor is a non-combat area with NPCs you can interact with, as well as a place of grace right in front of the fireplace.

The Shadowed Castle is a side area located directly between Mount Gelmir and the Altus Plateau (it's included in the map section for the shape, but the places of grace are listed under the latter). You can go to it anytime after you reach the Altus Plateau if you want, you just won't be able to see the actual location on the map until you get the Mount Gelmir map. To get to it, you can start from a place of grace like Erdtree Gasing Hill and then head north through the valley.

Once you pass through the narrow area of the cliff, you will find that the castle is in a large poisonous area.
To enter the castle, go a little to the northwest, where there will be rocks leading to a broken part of the wall.
Watch out for the corpse enemies as you enter (they are all over the castle and inflict poison if they grab you) and head to the right where you can find the first grace spot inside the castle.
Shaded ramparts
From this place of grace, you want to jump down to the central area with all the poisonous water and Ghostcallers hanging around, and then start heading towards the center of the castle.
As soon as you turn the corner and get to the next open area, there will be a ladder on the platform directly to the right next to the hanging Wraith Caller. Climb up this ladder to the next area.
At the top, go slightly to the left, where you can see an opening leading to the next courtyard, to the next building that you need to enter straight ahead.
You can walk right through the middle of the courtyard if you want (just watch out for the mounted Ghostcaller patrolling the middle) or jump to the top of the buildings and straight to the next passage.
Go straight to the next building for the next place of grace.
Inner gate of the shaded castle
Keep walking forward, then go up the stairs on the left.
Head into the next room and make your way to the other side, keeping an eye out for a few nobles and a page who will try to ambush you along the way.
Outside, immediately turn right and start making your way across the bridge to the other side, but watch out for the Pure Rot Knight who will try to stop you. There will be another one that you need to complete on your way to the boss.
Head through the next building and you'll end up in another open area with another Pure Rot Knight. The tower you can see if you exit it is your path to the boss.
Before heading to the boss, be sure to go to the south side of this platform and drop the ladder down. This gives you a small chance to return from the place of grace if you die from the boss.
When you're ready to go to the boss, take the elevator in the tower and down the long passage full of statues to the boss room.
Elemer of Heather
Reward: 24 runes, Marais' executioner's sword, large rosehip shield
Firstly, ranged builds or ranged spells are useless against this boss. He will constantly throw swords at you when he moves a few meters away from him. You will have to learn how to perfectly dodge his melee attacks, land 1-3 hits between his combos and repeat. Play with light armor so your stamina regenerates faster. Having 25 stamina helps to have more stamina, if you haven't upgraded your stamina it will be more difficult. Since the boss attacks quickly and constantly, you always need to keep an eye on your stamina bar so that you have enough strength left to dodge and retaliate. Playing with heavy armor will make you too slow for that. If you get hit, you need to dodge after he finishes his combo and heal up quickly, then immediately dodge his next attack (he doesn't leave a big gap between attacks). You must always be near him. His melee attacks are easy to dodge once you learn his attack pattern, but it takes some learning and you have to learn how to dodge well, which can be tricky at first if you've played a ranged build/mage so far. If you're playing as a mage, use the Carian Slicer spell, which is a melee attack with a magical sword. It's good that this boss doesn't have too much health, but he is very aggressive and has a very large moveset. Start by summoning Ash Remains to distract him a bit. It will quickly kill your ashen remains, but it will at least help you out early in the fight and open it up for attacks from behind. There are 3 moves you can use: after his melee combo you can land 1-3 hits, the best one is when he slashes forward with his sword as you can easily dodge him and land 2 quick hits. Another good way is when he smashes his shield on the ground, dodges back, and then does 2 quick hits. For everything else, you need to dodge towards him and slightly to the side to get behind him. When he starts spinning his sword and making it red, he throws it forward in a straight line, then you can dodge towards him and quickly get behind him while his spinning sword attack is in progress, you can hit 4-5 from behind. deal a lot of damage quickly. He doesn't do it too often, but he should do it 1-3 times per fight and it's the best opening to take off 20% of his health in one go. This is one of the more difficult fights due to the perfect dodge required, and you can't outrun him due to his throwing swords that will hit you anywhere, so it's more of a case of "getting better" and learning his movement. set and dodge is excellent.
Hall of the Castellan
Once the boss has been defeated, you will be able to interact with the new grace in the center of the room.
