В Destiny 2 Titans are mostly known for their ability to absorb damage. However, these beasts can turn into ultimate DPS machines with the right build and weaponry.

After the Lightning (Arc) 3.0 rework, every class in Destiny 2 received an update in terms of the damage they dealt. While there isn't a huge difference in damage output between the three subclasses, the Arc 3.0 Titan feels freer than other Titan builds.

While the Titans may not have the hammer with the Arc 3.0 rework, they still have their thunder fists. What's more, any Arc 3.0 build relies heavily on the abilities a Guardian can have, meaning that the focus will be on the mods used in the build.

About the Lightning Titans

Titans can't boast of high mobility, but when working on Lightning 3.0, the developers decided to deviate a bit from the traditional approach. When working on the new Lightning subclass abilities for the Titan, the authors imagined a fist fighter who was always ready to strike first. Also a freight train.

"There's no way you can budge a Lightning Titan," Humboldt explains. - But he will easily move you from your place. The Lightning Titan prefers to fight face to face, so our task was to figure out how to speed up the meeting of his fist with the face of the enemy.

This desire to melee anything that moves is what prompted us to bring back a couple of devastating Supers for Lightning 3.0:Fists of Desolation" and "Thunderstrike". Fists of Devastation hasn't changed much, but the range of a strong strike is now somewhere in between the options from the upper and lower branches. Ground Strike leaves an area that deals damage, while Air Strike deals a powerful area-of-effect attack (this is how the ability from the top branch used to work).

In case of "Thunderstrike” (and other abilities), pulling the subclass abilities from the old diamond system allows for powerful buffs that depend on how players use the ability. This is one of the key benefits that the 3.0 subclass system brings to Destiny. “Just start combining an ability with other elements, and it can become significantly more powerful, even if it itself has not changed at all, simply because it is no longer limited to a fixed set of bonuses,” Humboldt explained. “And the situation with Thunderstrike perfectly illustrates this.”

One of the key changes to the Lightning Titan is the new class ability "Jet thrust". By double-clicking the button, the Titan (when standing on the ground) performs a quick dodge in first-person mode, making a powerful dash in the selected direction for a distance comparable to the distance that the hunter overcomes when dodging. “Lightning and agility are inseparable, and this is a great reason to make the Titans more agile,” says Humboldt.

Titans will still be able to use the melee ability "seismic shock” to stab opponents with a running shoulder and blind them. Seismic Strike, when cast while under the effect of a Buff, blinds enemies in a larger radius, increasing the duration of the blind. Players will also continue to have access to Ballistic Strike, which allows the Guardian to take off into the air during their run and crash to the ground, causing a massive explosion.

Adding to these familiar moves is a new charged attack: Thunderclap. By holding the melee button, you charge your fist with Lightning energy, and then you can deliver a fast and powerful blow or accumulate an additional charge to unleash all your monstrous power on the enemy, just like the protagonist of the One Punch Man anime. The accumulated charge cannot be saved. In addition, the titan must stand still in order to charge the fist. This ability deals very high damage. Thunderclap at 90% will instantly kill a Guardian in PvP, but it will take time to build up the charge while standing still, which is very risky in PvP.

With the Lightning 3.0 update, Titans, like other subclasses, will have three aspects to choose from.

  • "Touch of Thunder": gives different upgrades for each type of electric grenade.
    • Stun Grenade: Creates an additional blinding flash on rebound.
    • Pulse Grenade: Periodically creates ion trails for the Titan when dealing damage to targets. The pulse grenade's damage gradually increases until it disappears.
    • Lightning Grenade: Grants an additional grenade and electrocutes targets hit by the first explosion.
    • Storm Grenade: Creates a roaming storm cloud that targets nearby targets (like the Stasis Hunter Ultimate Silence and Flurry) and strikes enemies under it with lightning.
  • "Juggernaut": after a short run-up with the class ability at full energy, a shield is created in front of the titan that absorbs incoming damage. When buffed, the shield can absorb much more damage. When the shield is destroyed, the energy of the class ability is reset to zero.
  • "Knockout": melee kills activate health regeneration and buff the titan. When you critically hit an enemy or break through an enemy shield, your melee attacks' range is briefly increased and their damage is increased. While the Titan is under the effect of Knockout, its basic melee attack is enhanced by the energy of Lightning.

In addition to the class aspects, Lightning 3.0 will also offer a number of new fragments with new base bonuses that will enhance (or weaken) certain characteristics of your Guardian.

Here are some new example snippets.

  • "Spark of Flares": Killing with a special electric weapon while empowered creates a blinding explosion.
  • "Spark of Resistance": when the player is surrounded by enemies, his damage resistance increases.
  • "Spark of Impulse": picking up ammo while sliding reloads your weapon and gains some melee energy. Picking up heavy ammo while sliding gives you even more melee energy.
  • Electric shock spark: electric grenades thrown by the player shock opponents with electric shock.

Overall, the changes that the Lightning Subclass update to version 3.0 will bring to the game will give the Guardians new abilities to destroy the enemies of humanity, and players will have more options for customizing the character to suit their playstyle.
