Destiny 2 - Stasis Subclass Shadowcaller in Beyond Light
The new customization options are sure to make the upcoming Warlock subclass of the Shadebinder a force to be reckoned with.
Stasis Subclass Reveal Week kicked off with Warlocks taking a first look at the Shadebinder class, coming to the game on November 10th.
According to Bungie, each Stasis subclass will use the powers bestowed by the Shadow differently, with Shadebinder focusing on the "freezing" nature of the element type.
The Shadowcaster can summon a staff imbued with stasis energy through which their abilities are realized. These abilities include Shadow Blast, a subclass melee ability that instantly freezes any enemy it hits, or the far more devastating Ultimate Winter's Fury. The first part of Super summons the staff of Stasis to fire multiple projectiles that freeze all enemies they touch, then the second part of Super summons a shockwave fired from the staff to destroy nearby frozen targets.
It's still unclear from Bungie's description if the second part of the super ability activates. "Rage of Winter" automatically or whether the player can activate it when they want to. The latter would be an obvious preference, as it means the Warlock can sync the shockwave with other players' freezing abilities to get the most benefit.
Stasis Tuning - Aspects and Fragments
The new Stasis subclasses coming with the Beyond Light expansion will be much more customizable than the subclasses currently in Destiny 2. This is achieved through the addition of Aspects and Fragments.
Aspects are top-level customization items that allow you to customize your Stasis abilities with completely new features. One example is the Frost Pulse Aspect, which causes the Shatter to release a wave of freezing Stasis energy. The player is free to combine these Aspects and match them to create new unique sets of abilities that are sure to send shivers through the enemies of the Last City.
Fragments are smaller customization items that can be slotted into Aspects for interesting passive effects and stat bonuses. One fragment, known as "Whisper of the Bond", grants super energy when the frozen target is defeated. Since this is a fairly powerful ability, we lose 10 modifier stats on Intelligence and Discipline.
The Warlock can insert this Fragment into the above Frost Pulse aspect to use his Shatter to freeze enemies, kill frozen enemies, restore Shatter energy, and then use Shatter again when facing the next group of enemies. Putting these aspects and pieces together can easily lead to some powerful builds.
While Fragments can be used in all Stasis subclasses, Aspect enhancements are unique to each subclass. An Aspect acquired on a Warlock cannot be used on a Hunter.
