YouTube removes dislikes so no one will know how much we disliked the video

YouTube is getting rid of dislikes to solve a problem that many didn't even know existed.

YouTube is making big changes to the way it handles viewer feedback. Starting today, some videos will no longer show the total number of dislikes. Likes will still be viewable and you will still be able to hit the Like button, but you won't be able to see how many other people also dislike the video.

According to YouTube creator Matt Koval, the change came after an experiment earlier this year when they removed the dislike button to combat "dislike attacks." They are essentially the same as review bombs, where a group of people hit the dislike button, even if they don't necessarily dislike the video, they just dislike the creator.

"We've also heard directly from smaller creators and those just starting out that they're being unfairly subjected to this kind of behavior," YouTube noted. in blog update , — "and our experiment confirmed that this indeed happens more often on small channels."

So, based on this experiment, YouTube made the dislike count personal. People can still click the dislike button to share feedback with creators and set up their own recommendations, and creators will still see the total number of negative ratings in their personal metrics, but the total will be invisible to the casual viewer.
