Warner Bros. and Discovery Together; New Company Will Start Conquering Streaming

WarnerMedia and Discovery have confirmed the planned merger. Companies will have to join forces and compete in the streaming market.

What happens when the two film and TV giants join forces? The question comes with today's announcement of the merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery, which will soon merge into a group valued at $150 billion (via Financial Times). It will be led by David Zaslav (now president of Discovery), who hopes the deal will be approved in the first half of next year. The new venture is to mark its presence in "more than 200 countries and territories."

One of the main goals of the merger is to start a fight in the streaming market by offering a wide range of content to the audience. Indeed, the company certainly can not complain about the diversity. WarnerMedia owns - in addition to Warner Bros. – HBO, CNN and Cartoon Network, and the Discovery catalog includes not only the channel of the same name, but also Eurosport and Polish TVN. It's also two streaming platforms in the form of this year's HBO Max and Discovery+ that should be getting a lot of "original content."

We must not forget that WarnerMedia is also the owner of DC Comics, i.e. Batman, Superman, etc. Some are already wondering what effect the upcoming merger will have. However, despite much speculation, it's safe to assume that this won't be a big deal for fans of DC's superheroes. Discovery is known more for documentaries, plaintext or just information projects, and it's hard to imagine that he would suddenly want to influence the future of comic book adaptations.
