War Thunder is a shareware multiplayer military action game with a third-person view about the Second World War. You have to go to various battlefields, where you can use aircraft, land and sea equipment in battles. Initially, only planes were present in the game, but a couple of years ago ground transport was added, making the game even more interesting. Roaring iron titans smashing each other against the background of colorful landscapes - it looks very beautiful. Real-life specimens from different countries are taken as the basis for all equipment, so you also have a chance to touch history.

War Thunder Receives a Serious Right on Target Update

The Direct Hit update brings in War Thunder many new vehicles and improvements, including legendary aircraft such as the MiG-27M and the Swedish JA-37C Jaktviggen.

  • In Naval realistic battles, the firing range, taking into account the correction, is now tied to the selection frame on the target. The value shows only the entered correction relative to the distance according to the range finder.
  • In the ship's binoculars, the central circle-cursor is hidden.
  • The target selection frame has been redesigned.

Game mechanics

  • The mechanics of the weapon control system (MCS) have been added to Naval Battles - a new system for aiming, aiming and issuing target designation for amendments.
    The FCS consists of several modules, which are found in various combinations on large ships:
    • The central artillery post is usually located deep in the ship's hull, under the bow superstructure, significantly below the waterline, or in the bow superstructure itself. Some ships may have up to two DACs. In this module, data received from rangefinders and command and rangefinder posts is processed, and target designation is developed for preemption.
    • If there is no DAC on the ship, but there are rangefinders or KDP, its functions are performed by the bridge.
    • Optical rangefinder - located on different tiers of superstructures and in the towers of the main caliber. Measure the distance to the enemy.
    • Command rangefinder post (KDP) - located at the top of the superstructures and on their wings, as well as sometimes along the sides on their own elevations. It measures the distance, direction and speed of the target. With a working system (all modules are intact and, in particular, the central artillery post), the player needs to capture the enemy in the sight, wait for the measurement to end, and then fire a sighting shot. After that, a water lead marker will appear in the AB and an alignment marker will appear on the binocular reticle in the RB.
  • In Naval Battles, the system of turret markers has been reworked. The status of each turret is pinned at the bottom of the screen.
    • Turret broken - red circle.
    • The turret in the blind zone is a gray circle.
    • The turret is ready to fire - green circle.
    • The process of overheating - the circle is filled with red.
    • Reloading process - the circle is filled with green.
    • Turret in the process of aiming - general blackout of the circle.
  • A shell fall marker has been added to the ship's binoculars. This marker shows up-to-date information about the average impact location of shells both horizontally and in range. 

Graphics

  • Supersampling Technology Update Nvidia DLSS up to version 2.2. This improved image quality, reduced graphical artifacts and ghosting, especially in low light conditions.
  • Improved display in mirrors in aircraft cockpits, and added a separate quality control in the graphics settings.
  • A setting has been added to the game to select the resolution for displaying textures on dynamic effects created using particles.
  • Increased the visual effects of hitting large shells (calibers from 80 mm to 480 mm) on all surfaces.
  • Reworked water impact visual effects for all projectiles.
  • The visual effects of the explosion of torpedoes, depth charges, mines have been redone. Added differences in the appearance of the underwater explosion depending on the amount of explosive.
  • The visual effects of all types of explosions on boats and ships have been redone.
  • Added splash effects when the ship's hull interacts with waves.
  • Visually reworked contrails.
  • Reworked the visual effects of shooting false thermal targets.
  • The visual effects of unguided rocket plumes have been redone.
  • Improved performance when displaying missile trails.
  • Disappearance of objects when moving away from the player now works the same for everyone (does not depend on graphics settings).

Sound

  • The sounds of all machine guns and automatic cannons of ground and naval equipment, as well as aircraft, have been redone. The principle of generating the sounds of rapid-fire guns has been changed in order to obtain a more adequate and realistic sound of high rates of fire.
  • Engine sounds for ground vehicles have been reworked so that the engine speed better reflects the load on it. That is, the speed changes more noticeably when driving uphill, shifting gears, slipping, etc. Also added power in the low frequencies.
  • The maximum volume of the player's vehicle engine has been increased.
  • With the release of the update, the game volume settings will be reset to the values ​​​​at which the game mix was adjusted.
  • The volume of material sounds under the tracks and wheels of ground vehicles is now independent of the volume of the player's engine.
  • All surface sounds under the tracks and wheels of the player's ground vehicles have been redone, new types of surfaces have also been added. Now there are sounds for water, earth, sand, snow, concrete (asphalt, pavers), liquid mud and ice (frozen bodies of water).
  • Aircraft of the Phantom family received authentic engine sounds.
