North Korea executes man for 'Playing Squid'

A trial took place in North Korea in which several viewers of the popular series “Squid game“, and the person who illegally imported a digital copy from China into the country was sentenced to death by firing squad. Such information was disseminated by the American Radio Free Asia with reference to its sources.

“The student who bought the disc received a life sentence, while six others who watched the show were sentenced to five years hard labor, and teachers and school administrators were fired and face deportation to work in remote mines,” the report said. RFA.

It is worth noting that Netflix streaming is not available in China itself, but its projects diverge in large numbers in the form of pirated copies.

Recall that in December 2020, North Korea passed a law called “On the eradication of reactionary thought and culture”, which prohibits the import and distribution in the country of foreign cultural materials such as films, plays, music and books. In the West, the law is believed to be mainly aimed at preventing the rise of media influence from South Korea and the United States, and those caught importing or consuming media should be punished.
