Star Wars: The Old Republic switches to 64-bit
Star Wars: The Old Republic is a fantastic MMORPG game. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the technical side of the game.
So if SWTOR was released over 10 years ago, if outdated technology causes huge optimization problems (even on powerful computers). In a PvP team, FPS drops to 15, and in PvE raids it is difficult to keep frames at the "optimal" level. Cuts, freezes, or so-called "slide shows" are the order of the day.
Fortunately, this should change soon. BioWare has announced the transition of SWTOR to a 64-bit version.
The first benefit of switching to 64-bit code is memory. With a 64-bit system, gamers can use more memory and are not limited to 4GB per process. This limitation applies to the game client itself and limits things like the amount of content we can put in each area.
This is due to limitations in our tools because they are based on the same code. SWTOR contains ten years of content: planets, characters, conversations, missions, systems, NPCs, etc. Moving to 64-bit removes this limitation and will help us simplify the process of creating compelling content for years to come.
Upgrading to 64-bit will help keep your game running smoothly by making sure it runs on your preferred hardware mode.
The test server for the 64-bit client is already open. Players can test the new version of SWTOR and send their feedback to the developers.
The official release of Star Wars The Old Republic 64 is planned after the New Year.
PS SWTOR is also testing cloud servers, which should improve game performance as well.
