STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl
STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a sequel to the popularly loved first-person shooter in development, a sandbox game set in the post-apocalyptic world of Chernobyl. Players can finally wander through a large, open, seamless world containing iconic elements from the original trilogy such as the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the city of Pripyat, the Novichkov village, as well as secret objects such as the Duga radar antenna.

STALKER 2 developer GSC Game World has decided to postpone the game until the end of this year.

As announced on Twitter, the developer has notified its fans that the release date for the new STALKER 2 has been pushed back to December this year.

“We have decided to postpone the release S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl as of December 8, 2022,” the development team said in a statement.

“These additional seven months of development are necessary to realize our vision and achieve the desired state of the game. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is the largest project in the history of GSC and requires extensive testing and polishing. We are convinced that development should take as much time as necessary, especially in the case of such a project.”

Delay with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2is likely to be a disappointment to fans, some of whom have been waiting for the game for almost a decade. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has seen a rather odd and tumultuous development cycle over the years, being originally announced in 2010 and then canceled just a year later. In 2012, there were reports that the game was "currently in development" with no release date, before news broke in 2018 that GSC was developing a sequel.

Elsewhere in the GSC statement, the team notes that the decision to postpone the game "was not an easy one", but hopefully it will allow them to have a game "that can live up to expectations". The statement ends by explaining to fans that further information, updates and showcases for the game will come in due course and that the team has an "exciting and important year" ahead of it.
