Even after several chin nerfs, Reaper continues to dominate the lobby Fortnite, and players continue to call for further changes to the single-shot sniper rifle.
The Reaper is the only long-range weapon available in Fortnite this season, and was originally introduced in the fifth chapter of the first season. In patch v28.1, the weapon received several nerfs: its bullet speed was reduced by 8 percent, bullet drop increased by 40 percent, and the weapon was no longer guaranteed to be in storage.
Later, at the beginning of the current season, the developers added unusual and rare variants of the Reaper sniper rifle, and in April they were weakened and the frequency of appearance was changed. However, since then, public outrage has not subsided.
“The situation with snipers is absurd. I jumped on a moving train, in good health, and still got a one-shot." one of the players complained on Reddit on Thursday, who fell victim to the sniper's wrath.
Another player also expressed disappointment and said that the weapon allows for a "one shot kill at full health and shield." He further added: “I don't understand why snipers have to be so strong. Especially when it’s not much harder to hit than with a pump-action shotgun or hand pistol.”
However, there are disagreements. Another player returned to the double pump meta of the past, where players also had little counter to shotguns. They said, “Snipers are rewarded for having good aim and timing, that's what snipers are for. [...] Actually, I think it's been a shotgun debate for a long time, it's just shifted towards snipers these days."
Some community suggested solutions include reducing headshot damage to 195, preventing one-shots, or removing Quick Aim from the game entirely.
Epic tried to bring back the rare sniper variety in their next update, v29.20, but they ended up releasing a hotfix a few days later. It will be interesting to see if Reaper Snipers find a healthy place this season or if the developers take them out of the game entirely.
