Rockstar unveils trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI with release date in 2025

After years of rumors and talk, Rockstar Games has finally released the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI. The trailer was originally leaked a day before its scheduled debut, forcing Rockstar to release it early. Judging by the trailer, GTA VI takes place in Vice City, and the game is scheduled to launch in 2025. In a press release, the company confirmed that the game will be released on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
Rockstar Games has previously confirmed that it is working on the next GTA game, but this is the first significant information about what to expect. The trailer confirms rumors that GTA VI will have two main characters - a man and a woman. The female character appears to be an ex-con, and we see what appears to be in-game social media, as well as moments reminiscent of TikTok videos or Instagram reels. There is also a Florida Man joke with scenes of the Florida wetlands.
Other details include scenes of an airboat, an alligator being pulled out of a backyard pool (then entering a store), police body camera footage, the return of Weazel News, motorcycles and ATVs, a robbery, and plenty of neon imagery.
Rather than revealing specific details about the game's improvements over Grand Theft Auto V, which first released in 2013, the trailer sets the stage and merely confirms the game's name, setting, and release window. The question remains about the fate of GTA Online - whether Rockstar will release a new offline mode, continue to develop the existing game, or choose a different path.
