Watch One of the Best 4K Game Trailers - It's the Result of AI
Digital Foundry has released an updated AI version of one of the best game trailers of all time. Ladies, gentlemen, here is the Metal Gear Solid 2 trailer from E3 2000 in 4K and 60 fps.
Game trailers are divided into those that we remember for years and those that we forget the day after watching them. The first category was undoubtedly the trailer for Metal Gear Solid 2, the second part of Hideo Kojima's series, which we saw at E3 2000. The passage of time and the rise of technology does not allow us to enjoy this gem as it used to be - And here, artificial intelligence appears , with which the creators of Digital Foundry update the material, which is more than two decades old. The effect of their work - in 4K and 60 fps, of course - you can see below:
Interestingly, the upscaling was based on a recording from a Japanese DVD trailer, thanks to which AI could work with video in good quality for those times. The trailer was updated using the Topaz Video Enhance AI tool. To create a 4K and 60fps version, the software had to process footage containing 240 lines of the original image per frame. Therefore, as the creators admit, the technology used, although exciting, is not ideal, because, for example, some elements are too sharp, and processing a trailer that was several minutes long took about three hours. In their opinion, DLSS seems to be much more promising than Nvidia.
Adding a little spice to all this is the fact that yesterday Hideo Kojima posted on Twitter about the possibilities offered by remasterowaniu games with artificial intelligence. Thus, you can say that the Digital Foundry video is a kind of gift for the Japanese author, which he did not ask for, but still received.
As a reminder, Metal Gear Solid , Metal Gear Solid 2 , and the game that started the series, Metal Gear , are all available on GOG.com.
