The new Overwatch patch hit the live servers with huge changes to Genji and Moira in experimental mode.

Genji has been dominating ranked games ever since he was buffed several times. game director Jeff Kaplan Hints Genji Will Get Some Adjustments and now they're finally gone.

There was a big change to his Shuriken damage, reducing it from 30 to 28. This should stop the Cyborg Ninja from taking out his Ultimate so quickly dragon blade into the network while maintaining a huge threat.

In addition, his secondary fire recovery has been increased from 0,65 to 0,75. It will be interesting to see how these changes affect Genji players and whether his dominance continues after all these nerfs.

Moira meanwhile received huge adjustments. The casting angle of Biotic Grasp has been reduced by 37%, so Moira players need to be more accurate.

In addition, her Biotic Orb and Fade abilities are fully refreshed. The radius of the ball is reduced by one meter, but to compensate, it will deal more damage depending on how close the enemy is.

From zero to one meter, it will deal a whopping 150 damage per second. However, from one to three meters, it will decrease from 150 to 25 damage per second.

The orb currently does 50 flat damage regardless of radius in live game.

Finally, Fade changes heavily with Moira, and all allies within six meters become immune to all damage and effects for one second.

Only time will tell if she needs these changes to finally balance the conflicted hero.

GENERAL UPDATES

Common

Echo

  • ♦Sound volume and distance have been reduced to passively target enemy echoes
  • ♦Improvements in sound directionality have been made to enemy Echo shooting sounds and weapon firing

Developer comment:

Since the initial release of Echo, we've made some audio level adjustments to address issues with Echo being too quiet in combat. These changes have increased the volume of the enemy Echo, as well as increased the distance at which the hero can be heard regarding his passive hover. After more feedback, we feel that these early attempts to set up the Echo were too drastic. Changes have been made in this patch to lower the Enemy Echo's passive targeting volume slightly and increase the distance at which the sound is heard to be more consistent with other Hero moves on the Overwatch roster. Additional changes were made to both the enemy passive echo and the fire three times to accurately determine directionality.

EXPERIMENTAL MODE

The next experiment begins! This time we hope to get your feedback on some of the balance updates. We're using the 2-2-2 Role Queue ruleset to give you a feel for how these balance changes can affect real-time gameplay.

Developer comment:

Recent buffs from Genji have made him see more of the game. It's great to see, but some of these changes pushed him too far. We're delaying some of these changes, specifically to reduce some of his explosive potential, and we'll be keeping an eye on him to make sure he lands in a good spot.

  • Damage radius reduced from 4 to 3 meters.
  • ♦Number of projectiles after target detection increased from -72,5% to -80%
  • ♦DPS now scales based on how close targets are to the Biotic Orb.
    • ◊From 0 to 1 meter: it deals 150 damage per second
    • ◊1m to 3m: Scales linearly from 150 to 25 DPS
    • ◊Note: Normal damage while alive is always 50 damage per second.
  • ♦Total potential damage that Biotic Orb can deal is unchanged: 200 total damage

Leaving in the shade

  • ♦Now collapse all allies within 6 meters (and yourself) for 1 second after exiting Fade.
    • Phasing makes the hero immune to all damage and effects. In this respect, it will work exactly like the Reaper's Ghost form, or Moira's own Vanish effect.

Developer comment:

The main purpose of these Moira changes is to give Moira players the opportunity to play more and improve their player skills. Biotic Orb (Damage) is now generally harder to hit all enemies in a large area, but will now fire well-aimed shots at greatly increased DPS. The Fade change is intended to directly give Moira players the opportunity to play the big game and, if used correctly, potentially turn the fight around solo. For example, Moira can now disappear from allies to save them from big ultimatums like Self Destruct or Graviton. You can also disappear an ally that has already been pinned by Reinhardt to force them to free themselves, saving them. This new Fade effect has many useful uses, and we look forward to seeing how players use it!
