Update description Valorant 4.01: Ares nerfs, melee changes
The Valorant 4.01 patch is here, and it comes with a slew of nerfs to the now tyrannical Ares, as well as welcome melee changes.
Episode 4 of Valorant is here and brings us a brand new battle pass, as well as the Filipino sprinter Neon.
Patch 4.0 also adjusted some of the game's most infamous weapon stats, although those changes weren't the hit the developers were probably expecting. After complaining about the buffs to the now "broken" Ares, Riot nerfed him again in patch 4.01.
In addition, we will finally see the promised melee adjustments to the game, weapons, and hitbox, which has been heavily criticized.
Valorant Patch 4.01 nerfs Ares
Patch 4.0 turned Ares into a weapon of war. By removing spin-up (allowing the weapon to fire immediately) and increasing the rate of fire from 10 to 13 shots per second, players are taking advantage of its raw power and low price since the start of Episode 4.
Luckily, in Patch 4.01, the price of Deadly Heavy Weapons is increased to 1 (an additional 600 credits) and its benefits are reduced to a minimum.

UPDATES ON SOCIAL NETWORKS
- Disabled words list added to settings
- Muted Word List is a new section you will find in your settings where you can enter variations of words/phrases that you personally would not like to see in the game.
- For example: Let's say "Rebellion" is a bad word. Our detection might catch the word "Riot" as one that should be blocked and penalized, but there are many different ways to spell Riot that we might not catch: R!ot, R!0t, Ri0t, etc.
- And no, you won't get "League of Legends" banned from chat
- We hope we can use the lists you and others create to make chat less toxic by comparing them by region and using the data we collect to improve our own bad word detection.
WEAPON UPDATES
APEC
- Price increased from 1550 >>> 1600
- Increased pitch recoil
- Spread changed from 0,8 >>> 0,7 after 10 bullets to 1,0 >>> 0,7 after 13 bullets
- Spread and return crouching advantage reduced from 40% >>> 25%
Close Combat (but for real this time)
- Hand-to-hand combat was too complex to aim at, making it hard to rely on. As such, we've updated both left and right melee attacks for a more robust Agent-whacking action.
- Right click hitboxes are now 1,5 times larger. Left click hitboxes are now larger than right click hitboxes and have slightly more range.
- Targets closer to the center of your knife attacks will be hit first, so you still have some accuracy if you need it.
- Bonus: Knife walls now have instant feedback when slicing walls (client-side predictable)

- Fixed an issue where the Origin collection idle animations would not play for some levels and variants in Spectator mode
FEATURES OF ESPORTS
- Fixed a bug due to which the hotkeys of the spectator player changed after side replacement.
PERFORMANCE
- Fixed an issue where performance graphs that require NVIDIA Reflex were displayed and could not be hidden
