Metroid Dread Update Adds New Modes, Full Patch Notes Released
Back in February, Nintendo announced that a new free update for Metroid Dread would be coming to the game in April. Update version 2.1.0 is now available for download. The update includes Boss Rush, Survival Rush, Dread Rush and general fixes.
Boss Rush forces the player to fight bosses 12 times in a row. The goal of Boss Rush is to show the best time. In Survival Rush, the player faces this many bosses in a row for 5 minutes. Any damage taken or weapons spent will be carried over to the next boss. Dread Rush is the same as Boss Rush, except that Samus automatically loses if she gets hit once.

Added new modes
Three different boss battle modes have been added to the game. Press the R button on the Samus Files screen to go to the Boss Rush selection screen.
Boss Rush
- A mode in which players fight in 12 non-stop boss battles and strive to set the best time.
- Any damage taken carries over to the next fight. The weapon is fully restored between fights.
- If Samus is defeated, players can choose to "Retry" to continue the game from the beginning of the lost battle. However, there is a time penalty for defeat.
- Bosses fighting in Boss Rush can be fought one on one at any time by selecting "Practice".
Survival Rush
- A mode in which players see how many bosses they can defeat within a 5-minute time limit.
- Any damage taken or weapons spent carry over to the next battle. Even with time left on the clock, Samus' defeat will result in a game over.
- Defeating the boss will add a fixed amount of time to the countdown clock. Defeat the boss without taking any damage to get an even bigger time bonus.
Terrible jerk
- The basic rules are the same as in Boss Rush, but if Samus gets hit by the boss, her energy drops to zero and she is defeated.
- Bosses in Dread Rush can be fought one on one at any time by selecting "Practice".
General fixes
- Fixed an issue that caused the Game Over screen to not display properly when Samus took damage and was defeated immediately after destroying the central block.
