New Legend Revenant Is The Best Thing To Happen To Apex Legends Since Launch
Consumed by hatred and driven by a lust for vengeance, Revenant pursues his enemies and spurns death itself.
Revenant of Apex Legends began his journey to the frontier with blood. He killed rival James "Forge" McCormick during a shocking live broadcast, and his character trailer showed his explicit violence.
Its creators turned it into simulacrum , a robot with a human mind, and made him think he was human. His response was unbridled cruelty. Its background was carefully crafted and gradually revealed over the weeks leading up to the final season.
The Revenant build was one of the most exhilarating moments of the battle royale and a testament to Respawn's writing talent. By choosing to take a closer look at the narrative elements, the studio has stepped into a new dimension of knowledge, and this is the most welcome change of pace.
Once Apex launched, Respawn promised to run four seasons in the first year , each with a new legend, new weapons, and a battle pass. It was transparent from the very beginning, and the “zero season” players were looking forward to the release of the first new competitor. He showed up the following month.
Octane got to the servers in March. The charismatic daredevil was the main event of the new season, a colorful character with plenty of room to get creative with his jumpers and high-speed chases. His story was simple: The heir to a pharmaceutical company became a daredevil out of sheer boredom, but lost two of his legs in a stunt gone wrong. After his legs were replaced with metal limbs, he decided to compete in the Apex Games. It's a simple story, but it works.
Add to that a protracted third season, a series of balancing patches Peacekeeper and the introduction of skill-based matches. This constellation of dissatisfaction caused some players to jump ship and lose interest in the game. Moments like Bash-Day Day Bash и Grand Soiree, were a respite from the eternal purgatory that was in the third season.
The magic was depleted, and Revenant brought her back to life.
Death and Revenge
Issue Revenant was an elaborate, well-planned obstacle. The introduction of The Forge during the season made fans live up to the expectations of the four legends promised by the developers. Some fans were upset that it wasn't a Revenant, but even then the Forge was the type of character that would work for you. Unlike Watson or Crypto, he had huge potential. And then Respawn killed him.
The murder of the Forge was a shocking twist in itself, and players were almost as terrified as the fictional hostess Lisa Stone. The writers literally shot the whole character in one fell swoop, and for the first time in seasons in Apex Finally, the unknown has arisen.
The players considered each clue. Forge is really dead? What will Revenant do next? Death, mysteries and wild theories were like " Game of Thrones" , but with the prospect of a much better, bloodier ending.
Revenant changed the way Apex engaged in storytelling. Yes, there was a pre-existing narrative element in the game, but it has become more subtle and far from cutting-edge. Preparing for the fourth season was an active decision to put more emphasis on creating the story, and it paid off.
Senior Designer Chin Xiang Chong explained how Apex came to what it is now.
"How? We hired a bunch of great writers like [Tom Casiello, Ashley Reid and Manny Hagopian] and focused on making sure storytelling is something we prioritize,” wrote he is in Twitter .
Shifting the narrative into the spotlight is what made Revenant what he is. It would be almost impossible to deploy it if not for the introduction of the simulacrum or the old Hammond Robotics from Titanfall . Perhaps he was a character who needed more context to understand that the words "robot consumed by hatred", despite being an accurate description, do not really capture his essence and do not explain his past.
The Revenant build gave Respawn the confidence to explore the universe behind the game, and hopefully that confidence will only grow. The writers have crafted a compelling narrative for one of the most compelling legends in the game, and the trailer that officially introduced it to us is nothing short of a work of art. But Apex Legends has always been about legends.
Bloodhound isn't just your archetypal hunter, Lifeline isn't just playing the part of a fantasy futuristic cleric at a party." Dungeons and dragons and Mirage isn't just comic relief. Of course they follow their own paths, but Apex presents us with much more complex characters than other combat units. That's part of what makes it special, and Revenant is the epitome of that premise.
On the eve of its first anniversary Apex Legends is on the verge of superiority. The game has come a long way since its first launch, and the Revenant saga is a testament to how Respawn can take more risks and explore storytelling with more depth and fury. They've done this before in the franchise Titanfall and they can do it again for apex
