New Witcher Game Officially Confirmed by CD Projekt Red and Epic Games
CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the next game in the Witcher series is officially in development. They said it would be a new saga in the series and use Unreal Engine 5.
After the hit The Witcher 3, CDPR announced that they had begun work on the next game in the Witcher series.
Apart from this initial confirmation of a "new saga" in the Witcher franchise, no further details such as development timeline or release date have been provided.
However, one detail we do know is that CDPR will be transitioning from REDengine (used in The Witcher 3) to Unreal Engine 5.
Ciri in the spotlight in new Witcher game
The only teaser image we've seen so far appears to show a cat locket, which could be a major clue. Ciri has a cat medallion in both the novels and the live-action series, while Geralt wears a wolf.
In addition, the interview 2020, CDPR confirmed that a new Witcher game will begin development after the launch of Cyberpunk 2077.
At the time, the developers stated that this fourth game would also not be a direct sequel to The Witcher 3, which means that there is a very strong possibility that this story will include Ciri in the story. Alternatively, CDPR may have something completely different up its sleeve. At the moment, there are no details about where this game will take us in the Witcher universe.
Ciri starred in The Witcher 3 but could only be controlled by the player for short bursts while Geralt was the main character.
There's no release date for the fourth Witcher game, but we're not expecting a quick turnaround for what will certainly be an epic event for CDPR.
For fans of The Witcher, there is still a next-gen release of The Witcher 3 to look forward to.
