New World has plummeted on Twitch after the game's hype subsided
Since taking over Twitch at release, New World's audience on the platform has dwindled significantly as the Amazon MMO hype begins to die down.
When Amazon Game Studios launched New World on September 28th, it's safe to say there was a lot of hype around the game.
The community, which peaked at 900 concurrent players on Steam at launch, was desperate to dive into the world of Aeternum and start their adventure.
Despite complaints about long queue times, the game's overwhelming popularity was reflected on Twitch, with the game category holding the top spot on the platform for several days.
However, two weeks after the launch, the initial hype began to die down, and the game's viewership dwindled significantly.
Two weeks after the release, the number of viewers of New World fell on Twitch
Despite an incredible start on Twitch, New World's audience has dropped significantly over the past seven days.
According to SullyGnome , the average number of viewers and hours watched by New World has dropped by more than 58% over the past week.
Not only that, the maximum number of viewers in this category reached 331, down 000% from the previous week's 66.
While these statistics show a decline in interest in Amazon's new MMO, this was to be expected given the level of hype generated by the game's release.
"New World" is still hugely popular despite the decline in viewership on Twitch.
While these numbers certainly don't reflect New World's growth on Twitch, it's likely that viewership statistics will level off once the dedicated player base is established.
With over 400 concurrent players still playing in mid-October, there's definitely no reason to worry about the state of the game just yet.
However, Amazon Game Studios will need to release new content in the near future to keep players interested and back into the world of Aeternum.
