Crossplay Rainbow Six Siege: release date and platforms
Ubisoft has confirmed that Rainbow Six Siege will finally get cross-platform play in the near future, but it will be in stages. Here's everything we know.
After years of requests from Ubisoft for this feature, Rainbow Six Siege fans are close to enabling crossplay in the game so they can team up (and headshot) players on other platforms.
The feature has rolled out in stages so far, but the end is near - though the recent delay means it's not inevitable.
Here's everything we know about crossplay in Rainbow Six Siege at the moment.
Crossplay Rainbow Six Siege on PC
PC players can already enjoy crossplay, though only Siege owners play on Google Stadia or Amazon Luna.
Ubisoft has not yet confirmed whether players will be able to team up or defeat their PlayStation or Xbox friends if they are still playing on PC, Stadia or Luna.
Rainbow Six Siege crossplay on consoles
However, PlayStation and Xbox cross-platform play will eventually be added to Siege, and Sony and Microsoft console owners will be able to play against each other as early as late 2022.
A tentative start date of 2022 has been officially announced, but Ubisoft is still working on the technology behind the scenes. As a result, the crossplay release was postponed until the end of 2022 - and it is expected to be released as part of the Y7S4.
Both console families already support intergenerational lobbies. Cross-play on consoles will continue to support this, meaning PS4 and PS5 players will be paired with Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players.
Ubisoft also revealed that cross-progression will debut at the same time as console crossplay.
For those who are wondering, Rainbow Six Mobile will not have crossplay with Siege on PC and consoles.
Rainbow Six Siege crossplay on mobile devices
With the announcement of Rainbow Six Mobile, some players have been wondering if Siege players on PC and consoles will be able to crossplay with their handheld counterparts.
At the moment the answer is - not. Rainbow Six Mobile only has access to a limited set of operators and maps, and the game was largely built from the ground up to be perfectly optimized for smaller devices.
It's unlikely we'll ever see crossplay between Siege on PC/Console and its mobile counterpart.
