Content Creation Policy Changes: Epic Games vs. Roblox
🔹 Epic Games Retains Adult Creator Program
Epic Games has confirmed that its creator program will remain only available to those over 18 years of age. According to the company's executive vice president, Sax Persson, this is due to the fact that participation in the company's programs is seen as "professional work." Epic is committed to providing a no-nonsense approach to content creation and payment processing that underscores their commitment to the rights and safety of creators.
🔹 Roblox and Teen Creators
Unlike Epic Games, Roblox does not set an age limit for participation in content creation, which allows teenagers to earn money from their creations. However, this approach is controversial because the company takes a significant portion of the revenue, leaving only a small share for the creators. For example, the creators in Roblox earn just 28 cents for every dollar spent on their content.
🔹 Financial conditions for creators
Creators at Epic Games get better deals: 40 cents on every dollar spent and 40% of total revenue. This makes working conditions at Epic Games much more attractive compared to Roblox.
🔹 The future of user-generated content
The approaches taken by Epic Games and Roblox are influencing the entire industry and setting the tone for discussions about the rights of young creators and the ethical aspects of their work. Possible revision of age restrictions and increased access to creative opportunities, as in the case of the Lego collaboration Fortnite, could significantly change the user-generated content landscape in the future.
