From the very beginning Fortnite ranked its weapons and cosmetic items according to rarity, from common to legendary and beyond. However, Epic Games has shown that this is a constantly evolving game, and to prove it even more, it is completely gets rid of rarities for cosmetics.
Regular patch Fortnite on April 9, 2024 also added a small, unexpected update to the game - cosmetic items such as skins, pickaxes, hang gliders, etc. will no longer have rarity. From now on, we will say goodbye to all colors and rarities on these item types, making them equal in value. Reliable insider Shiina broke the news on Twitter, sharing official statement from Epic Games about this: "The old Battle Royale inspired color and tag system for cosmetics has been removed!"
FORTNITE STATEMENT REGARDING THE LOCKER:
— Shiina (@ShiinaBR) April 9, 2024
— Starting in May, EVERY COSMETIC will have an individual timer showing when it's leaving the Item Shop
— The old Battle Royale-inspired system of colors and tags for cosmetics has been REMOVED!
When you look at your cabinet now, you may notice that all the items look the same. The only exceptions to this rule are items from significant collaborations such as Marvel, DC Series, Gaming Legends и Icon Series. These items have corresponding tags next to the item type and have an aura around their icons.
There are some mixed feelings about this sudden change. Since this is a feature from the start, experienced players feel a bit disappointed as the game strays further from the OG experience. Others feel a little confused as to why this was even necessary. While this is just a minor change that doesn't really impact gameplay, it does change the way we look at some cosmetics and items. Some items seem less valuable than they once might have been.
Luckily, we can appreciate some good news along with the cosmetic confusion. Starting in May, Epic Games says it will be adding spin timers to all items in the store. Additionally, the store will change at different times for each time zone, rather than globally. This change will help players better track when items appear and disappear. This also solves the problem of odd rotations for some time zones that prevent players from checking them as often.
Epic Games is making a lot of changes to Fortnite, which is already evident from the game modes with the multiverse. These small updates once again prove that the game will continue to grow and develop. It may take us a while to get used to these new features, but they will become more accessible in the long run.
