The Presnensky Court last week refused to stop the blogger’s criminal case after reconciliation of the parties, and soon appointed Edward Beal (Eduard Beal) two years of restriction of freedom, which provoked a mass accident on Smolenskaya Square in the center of Moscow in April.
“By the verdict of the Presnensky District Court of Moscow, Edward Biel was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 1 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and he was sentenced to two years of restriction of freedom, ”said Lela Kokaya, press secretary of the court. According to her, the court also deprived the blogger of the right to engage in activities related to driving a vehicle for a period of three years.
Thus, the defendant was sentenced, on which the state prosecution insisted during the debate of the parties. The defense, in turn, asked for a non-custodial sentence for Beal.
The Presnensky court last week refused to terminate the criminal case of the blogger after reconciliation of the parties. The corresponding petition was filed by the representative of the victim, the accused and the defenders. Bilu's measure of restraint was chosen in the form of a ban on certain actions until the verdict enters into force.
Biel is charged under Part 1 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Violation by a person driving a car of the rules of the road, which negligently entailed the infliction of grievous harm to human health”). He faces up to two years in prison. The victim in this case is an employee of the State Duma, Maria Artemova. It was previously reported that Biel paid her full compensation. The lawyer of the defendant, Gennady Udunyan, told TASS that the blogger is also ready to pay compensation to all participants in the accident after negotiations with them.
The prosecutor's office reported that Biel had previously been brought to administrative responsibility for traffic violations: in 2018 - 33 times, in 2019 - 381 times, in 2020 - 11 times.
