Diablo 4 Reveals the Skill Tree...and Sticks a Pin in Path of Exile
The next part of the interview with Joe Shelley (Game Director of D4) and Rod Ferguson (General Manager of the Diablo series) was devoted to character classes and their development.
We're talking here specifically about the Skill Tree, which will play an important role in Diablo 4, allowing you to change or add effects to your skills.
Blizzard guarantees that the local Skill Tree will be extensive, unique, customizable, but - and this is where we come to the pin stuck in Path of Exile - at the same time not complicated.
The new player will not be overwhelmed, so to speak, by the scale of the tree. He also won't have to visit build sites just because building his own setup would be too much of a challenge.
(if this is not an accusation against PoE, then I don't know)
We don't want Diablo IV to become a game where players have to visit a website and learn someone else's build just because building their own version is so hard.
The skill tree in Diablo 4 will get its own search engine (so that players can quickly find the features they are interested in) and the possibility of an infinite reset. At first, getting points will be ridiculously cheap, but as the character develops, the cost of pumping will increase.
Changing the formation in the endgame will be possible, but it will be unprofitable. Blizz wants players to get attached to their "creations".
According to the latest reports, Diablo 4 is expected to launch between March and May 2023.
