Chernobylite: A Guide to All Companions and Their Skills

В Chernobylite you will earn experience points for various activities such as killing enemies, exploring the game world, encountering random events, crafting items/building a base, and completing missions. In turn, you will use the points you earn to get new perks, all of which will be provided by your comrades. Here is our Companion Recruitment and Skill Guide, which will help you turn the main character, Igor, into the best friend for everyone, who becomes an absolute beast thanks to his training.

Chernobylite  Companion Recruiting and Training Guide

your comrades in Chernobylite join you at intervals if you meet the prerequisites. You will meet them during the course of your journey and you will be given the opportunity to hire them. Once they are in your base, you can talk to them to start the tutorial. This will lead to a short action or cutscene.

In some cases, you simply listen to the dialogue of the characters while they teach Igor. Other times, you may be asked to shoot targets, run through an obstacle course, or sneak up on your buddies. It's also possible that some perks have updated versions that cost more points (e.g. Olga gives you +6 inventory slots and then another +6 slots after learning the previous perk).

You can refer to the links below for the details you need help with:

  • Guide to Oliver
  • Guide to Michael
  • Guide to Olga
  • Guide to Cockroach
  • Guide to Sashko

Note 1: Due to the nature of the campaign Chernobylite Companion quest chains and story arcs tend to be non-linear. For example, you can meet Sashko during the mission, and later he will call you on the radio to your headquarters to give you the next task. Alternatively, his arc can be interrupted by Olga's mission, although you will still receive Sashko's next quest in the future.

Note 2: at you have the option to tell the characters to permanently leave your party, but this is not recommended. What's more, Chernobylite provides you with many important decisions, some of which may or may not make your comrades like you. If your relationship suffers after the Terrible stage, they may end up leaving your squad. If you don't want this to happen, you can use the timeline reversal mechanic to change the result.

Oliver's skills training

Oliver, of all your fellow Chernobylite , does not have strict entry requirements. In fact, he is part of the prologue, and he happened to meet with Igor at the very beginning of the campaign.

Here are the skills that Oliver can teach you:

  • Accuracy – +25% revolver damage.
  • Stealth - move and jump silently.
  • Awesome - Takedowns are quieter and won't negatively affect Igor's psyche.

Michael's perks, skill set

Your first meeting will take place during the mission "Hacking NAR Servers" ("Eye of Moscow"). You will receive data on NAR activities in the Exclusion Zone while Mikhail incites mercenaries to attack him.

Then, in "Michael in Trouble" (Eye of Moscow), you will have to rescue him from the building as he is hallucinating. You will have the opportunity to recruit him here.

Here are the skills Michael can teach you:

  • Gathering - +15% to each resource you pick up.
  • Survival Instincts - A chance to get extra food by gathering plants and mushrooms.
  • Capacity - Gain +12 inventory slots.

Olga - recruitment and skills training

Olga was the third comrade that I encountered during the passage Chernobylite .

During an early mission called Traitor (Kopachi) you will encounter a scavenger who seems suspicious. Oliver wants you to kill him, but you can let this guy go. Later, in "Voice in the Forest" (Red Forest), you will visit the camp run by Olga.

If the scavenger from the past is still alive, you will find it in the cell. The man tells you that his name is Konstantin. You can free him and feed him, after which he will gladly tell Olga about all the help you provided. After that, you can hire her. Conversely, if you killed Konstantin and told Olga about his fate, then she simply will not join you.

Here are the skills Olga can teach you:

  • Organization - Gain +6 / +6 inventory slots.
  • Discipline - +3 health points.
  • Control – +25% assault rifle damage.

Cockroach - where to hire and buffs from his presence

I met the Cockroach at the beginning of the Chernobylite campaign, but he was on the lookout and was very wary of intruders.

In Old Documents (Kopaci), the objectives will lead you to his safe. After that, the room will close, slowly filling with gas. You need to press the switch on the wall to get out.

After a few missions where he gives you clues, you will get "The Crumb Trail" (Kopachi). NAR soldiers will chase him and once you kill them, you can force him to join the team.

Here are the skills that the Cockroach can teach you:

  • Savings - 10% cheaper crafting/construction.
  • Camouflage - increases the time before enemies detect you.
  • Software Update - Allows the Environmental Analyzer to highlight enemies and reload faster.

Sashko - where to recruit and bonuses from his presence

Sasha was the last comrade who joined me when I passed game campaign.

There is a special mission called "Monument from the Past" (Eye of Moscow). Here Sashko introduces himself and you have options on what to do with Doug's radar.

Much later you will receive the "Final Exam" (port of Pripyat). Upon reaching the third floor of the building, Sashko will ask you to take a leap of faith (i.e. jump off the sidewalk). It's a safe landing, and Sashko applauds you for trusting him. He will gladly be part of the team.

Here are the skills Sasha can teach you:

  • Parkour - run faster and reduce fall damage.
  • Reflex - +3 health points.
  • Patience - 25% shotgun damage.

Well, that's all for today! There are no more satellites, and I remind you that Chernobylite is available through Steam . For more information check out our leadership for beginner players.
