Overwatch 2 beta: release date, new heroes, how to play
Blizzard has finally announced the release date for the Overwatch 2 beta, along with new heroes, modes, and more.
Players have been eagerly awaiting news of Overwatch 2 ever since word got out that the pros will be playing an early build of the game in Season XNUMX of the Overwatch League in May.
Now, Overwatch Game Director Aaron Keller has announced that the closed beta will launch on PC at the end of April, while the closed beta has already begun for staff and pro players.
Here's everything you need to know about the Overwatch 2 beta and how you can play.
How to register to play Overwatch 2 early
Players can currently register on Blizzard website and "subscribe" to the beta. This will allow you access when it becomes available at the end of April.
There is no guarantee that registering will give you access, however, if you are lucky enough to participate, there will be plenty of new Overwatch content to dive into.
The beta will contain new maps, modes, reworks of existing characters, and one hero addition: Sojourn.
Overwatch 2 Beta Maps
The new maps in Overwatch 2 will consist of a Circuit Royal escort map, a hybrid Midtown, and a pair of Push maps: New Queen Street and Colosseo.
Push is the newest mode in Overwatch that essentially combines a king of the hill payload with teams competing in a tug of war to move the robot further into the enemy base.
Additionally, Overwatch 2 is played 5v5 instead of 6v6, so players will have a whole new dynamic.
New Heroes and Reworks
The only new damage hero so far is Sojourn, but there are a few tweaks that will make the old characters play in a completely different way.
Orisa, Bulwark, Sombra, and Doomfist have all had significant changes, so getting used to their new abilities should be quite a challenge.
