Assassin's Creed Valhalla - Everything We Know

Assassin

We've learned a lot about Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. Ubisoft sheds light on the story, Norse setting, game world, exploration, combat, sailing, and original side-actions.

Ubisoft has revealed the cards. We finally know for sure what's next Assassin's Creed will receive a Norwegian settlement. After the first trailer and a few gameplay and story details ( as well as announcements about the official presentation of the gameplay ) the creators have talked a lot about what we will find in this project .

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla focuses on PC, as well as current and next generation consoles, and will launch later this year . Interestingly, thanks to the Smart Delivery option, Xbox One users get a free copy Xbox Series X version and vice versa.

Setting

The game will take place during the peak of the Viking Age, 873, in present-day Norway. The expansionist tribes of the north had by then raided most of the lands abroad such as Ireland, Britain or Poland. However, the constant wars and conflicts also take a toll on the peoples of Scandinavia, which gradually declines, lacks vital resources, and is often plundered in vengeful attacks. In the midst of all this, we will lead the clan in AC: Valhalla playing as Eivor, the male or female protagonist (the game will allow us to choose the gender). Creators convince that players will “feel the harshness of the land and the political pressure inherent in that time. You will feel it all and hopefully understand why you need to move to England where most of the game takes place.”

Settlement

creators Assassin's Creed: Valhalla will try to show the Vikings as more ruthless barbarians . Yes, they were capable warriors, but they also developed an extremely rich culture and mythology and were excellent settlers. However, the developers do not want to present a one-sided view of history, where the Vikings are "good" and the British are "bad". Not all Vikings will act as noble heroes and King Alfred of Wessex (later known as Alfred the Great) will not be a typical antagonist , but a multifaceted and important historical figure, which the creators want to treat with due respect.

A few more words about expansion and resettlement. В AC: Valhalla , we will build our clan's settlement from scratch, and then systematically expand it . We will not only be able to commission new buildings such as barracks, forges or shops, but also improve existing buildings. It certainly won't become a strategy game all of a sudden, but we'll get something like the big, famous starship Normandy SSV, home of Commander Shepard from the trilogy Mass Effect . Thus, the village will become the base of operations, as well as the place where many of our adventures and decisions will begin and end., During the game we will have to create alliances with other clans, which will often be in official oaths taking place in our village.

The battle

Expected that the game world will be filled with a bunch of "interesting things" and finding them will bring precious rewards . In England, divided into four kingdoms (Wessex, Northumbria, Mercia, and East Anglia), we find three great cities: London, Winchester, and Jorvik (today's York). The map also has many surprises. Sounds great!

However, the research will be carried out not only out of curiosity or mission objectives, but also out of the need to acquire resources and expand its sphere of influence, which is tantamount to war. In addition to the raids launched from our ship in the company of other Vikings, there will also be sieges that will take place on a much larger scale, including attacks on major strongholds . Interestingly, we will be able to hire other players' clansmen as mercenaries or borrow our own warriors for money. However, the game does not feature the cooperative mode that is rumored to exist.

So we move on to the next important element. Assassin's Creed: Valhalla , combat system, which should be more brutal than ever, with dismemberment being the harshest punishment . In addition, Eivor will wield two types of weapons - swords, axes or ... shields, which will be used for both defense and attack. According to Thierry Noel, the historian who oversaw the project, the creators made an effort to make the battle as varied as possible - as it was in reality . Our opponents are also supposed to be diverse (in fact, the most diverse in the history of the series).

Of course, the invisibility mechanic will also be easily accessible; we've already seen the hidden blade in the trailer, and it's interesting how it will be obtained in the game , and why the blade is located on the outside of the forearm. How can we read Reddit , one of the Slovak stores wrote that in the game will implement camouflage mechanics in snow and mud, much like in own the game Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint . There will also be a bow that will allow us to destroy enemies from a safe distance.

RPG

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla will have a character development system. Ashraf Ismail, the creative director of the project, assures that his team wanted to bring a lot of new things here. Primarily, Eivor's combat potential will be increased by acquiring new equipment and upgrading items with runes . The system will be flexible and we will be able to finish the game with the weapons we started with thanks to runes and modifications. We can also acquire new skills and improve those already learned . The creators will let us freely choose from among them the ones that best suit our play style. At the same time, developers refuted skill tree rumor At least in terms of the functionality of the system they developed, due mainly to the synergy between individual skills.

As Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is a Viking game, we obviously need ships. However, we will not see naval battles, as in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey or Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag . The ship will serve as a means of transportation; it will also allow us to quickly retreat if the situation gets out of hand. As in previous parts of the series, the ship will be customizable.

Mythology and modernity

Since mythology played a central role in the life of the Vikings, it will also become one of the pillars of history in AC: Valhalla . Although the creators have not yet spoken about it directly, we assume that "a cool way to integrate it" into the universe of the series means an approach similar to Assassin's Creed: Odyssey . Anyway, we could see a slight anticipation of it already in the trailer, in which we see a robed figure briefly appear on the battlefield, only to transform into a raven, and Eivor yells "One with us!" Bird , which is undoubtedly plays a similar role to the eagle from the previous entry in the series (the protagonist's "eye" is floating in the air) .

The other part obviously brings another chapter in the eternal feud between the Hidden Ones (Assassins) and the Order of the Ancients (Templars). What's more, we'll also learn more about the modern-day hero in the timeline, Layla, as well as the First Civilization.

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla will also suggest some side activities that will allow us to take our minds off the hardships of the war. The game will include hunting, drinking competitions, as well as "traditional duels of the Vikings » - contests of throwing insults at opponents.
