Apex Legends Octane Guide: Abilities, Effective Use

octane

Our Apex Legends Octane Guide will detail everything we know about this leaked character. While we don't know for sure if Octane will be 100% added to the game, we think leaks are relatively likely. We've compiled all the information we know and will update this guide as soon as we get a specific announcement, one way or another. Some evidence is emerging that the next Legend will be in Apex Legends. Octane seems to be a sort of run through of the character's mill post-apocalyptic style, which is reminiscent of Jankrat from The Warden or straight from the cover of Borderlands 2. It also has an element of Batman's Bane, especially if the leaks are true and the character is using stimpacks and punching tubes in your body.

 LEAKAGES

The first thing to know about Octane is to take all of the following information with a little salt. Even though the leaks seem real, and a future legend named Octane leaked in-game files, we don't know for sure if the character is real. So far, there have been at least a few leaked images showing off the character. One shows abilities (see the Abilities section of this guide!), another shows a pretty bad picture of him, and the last one looks like an image, a mockup of a character in photoshop.

The character shown in the Photoshop leak is especially interesting because it takes a lot of effort to create such a high-quality image of a fake character. This still doesn't guarantee anything, but it gives the leaks some credibility. The leaks were mostly submitted on Reddit.

HOW TO UNLOCK OCTAINE

We don't know for sure, but it will probably be available for purchase in the same way as Caustic and Mirage. While it's possible you'll be able to unlock it from the Battle Pass due to be announced sometime this month, it's much more likely that you'll have to spend some Apex Coins or Legend Tokens. The other two characters will currently cost you 750 Apex Coins or 12 Legend Tokens each!

OCTAINE'S ABILITIES

If the leaks are correct, then it's good that we have a chance to see the abilities! This one was also posted on Reddit, you can find the source here.

Passive Skill: Swift Mend

Health regeneration out of combat

I've seen many people discuss how powerful these abilities would be, but I tend to disagree with them. While I think it can be useful, it's unlikely that this skill will heal you fast enough to make a huge difference. Yes, it can give you some health back to survive the fight, but you'll probably take too long to recover for it to really have an effect. This will probably come in handy when you're low on meds and have just won a fight, but it won't give you a huge head start over other players.

Tactical Skill: Adrenaline Junkie

Adrenaline, after injection of which the character moves 30% faster for 8 seconds. Activation "costs" a tenth of health;

I love the idea of this ability and the fact that it has a real cost when using it. It also pairs nicely with a passive, so you can use it to travel and regenerate lost health. This will make Octane a more aggressive legend and give you plenty of chance to flank without having to worry about slowing down.

Ultimate Ability: Launch Pad

A portable launch pad that allows you to take your allies into the air and plan

This can be a pretty good ability, but with the amount of mobility already in the game, I'm not sure how valuable it will prove to be. You can already relocate with balloons and there are ziplines everywhere. I would compare it to Pathfinder's ult, but obviously I think it's better because you won't be as much of a target when you're flying through the air as if you were using a zipline.
