Classic World of Warcraft classes can be divided into three roles: tank, healer, and fighter. Different classes excel in different roles, but which class is the best tank?
Tanks are a vital part of any classic WoW dungeon or raid group, absorbing damage for the party and keeping enemies focused on themselves to allow other team members to fill their roles with ease.
Without them, the group cannot function and, as a rule, the better the tank, the smoother things go. So, to help you on your journey, here is our list of the best tanks in WoW Classic.
Defense Warriors
Defense Warriors are by far the best tanks in WoW Classic and are even considered by some players to be the only true tanks as they are the only class able to reduce the damage they take.
The role of the tank is to anger attacking enemies and stay alive. Out of all three tank classes, Warriors are the best on this list due to their large arsenal of abilities such as Shield Wall, Last Stand, and Taunt.
Warriors are able to keep themselves alive and keep enemies attacking them for much longer than other classes, thus earning #1 spot for tanks in Classic.
Feral Druids
Wild Druids are the second best tanks in the game. This is because they lack the damage reduction ability of a warrior, but they can still hold off enemies attacking them and reduce a fair amount of damage taken due to having a lot of armor.
They can also reduce enemy armor with Faerie Fire and can increase allies' critical strike chance with their talents.
Druids are often used in raid groups as an "off-tank" - a secondary tank that takes the pressure off the "main tank", which is usually the warrior that focuses the biggest threat.
Defense Paladins
Defense Paladins are the last and worst tank on the list. They are not usually used for tanking because they don't have saves (strong defensive spells) and equipment for a tank with intelligence didn't exist at all, so they instantly ran out of mana and the tank couldn't hold aggro. They also do not have the ability to remove the fear spell from themselves (unlike warriors)
They can be used for tank dungeons as they have a good way to control groups of monsters and provide utility through their blessings, but require a lot of experience and skill and just one mistake can spell death for the entire group.
Meanwhile, warriors and druids are much more forgiving and have the tools to salvage a failed battle.
