All characters in Hades 2
Hades 2 features new and returning characters adapted from Greek mythology. In this guide, we talk about all the characters that have been revealed so far.
Supergiant Games introduced hades 2 at the Game Awards on December 8th. The game follows new protagonist Melino on her quest to save her father, Hades, and defeat the Titan Chronos. Developers are not yet Hades 2 release date announced, although Supergiant has promised that it will have news of an early access phase in 2023.
The trailer did a great job of introducing Melino and creating a central conflict. However, she's not the only named character in the trailer, which likely only represents part of the game's cast. And while fans don't have a complete list of everyone who appears in the game, here's everything that's been revealed so far about the characters in the upcoming roguelike Supergiant Games.
Melino - princess of the underworld
Voiced by Judy Alice Lee Melino is the main character Aida 2 and the daughter of the Greek god Hades and the goddess Persephone. This also makes Melino the granddaughter of Chronos and the protagonist's younger sister. Aida Zagreus, sharing his mismatched red and green eyes. However, her most striking physical feature is her left arm, which is green and transparent, revealing the bone underneath. The reason for her spectral finiteness is unknown, but will likely be explained in-game.
The mythological name Melinoe may refer to her yellow-green skin, which the ancient Greeks associated with corpses. Her skeletal hand, pale skin and blue-green lipstick in hades 2 may be a reference to this description, as they result in a somewhat cadaverous appearance. Melino's character design also recognizes her status as a moon goddess, with metal crescents incorporated into her outfit. Her signature weapons are a dagger and a crescent-shaped scythe.
Hekate - Headmistress
Voiced by Amelia Tyler, Hekate is the goddess of sorcery, necromancy, and the crossroads and serves as Melino's mentor "Aide 2". Fans see her for the first time fighting Melino in Hades 2 trailerbefore their battle is revealed as a training exercise. Her towering frame and witch-like garb give Hekate a sinister air. However, she seems to be on Melino's side and is the one who sends her on a quest.
Interestingly, Hekate and Melinoe may have been the same character in some versions of the Greek myths. Although they are individuals in hades 2, joining them together makes sense given the association.
Moros - Doom Incarnate
Voiced by Sterling Suliman, Moros is the God of Destiny and one of Melino's allies in the battle against Chronos. He appears only briefly in Hades 2 trailer, telling Melino that she has a great opportunity to make things better "for all of us". It is unclear if it will offer any new boons in hades 2.
The son of the night goddess Nyx, he is the personification of impending doom in Greek mythology. His mythological role included bringing mortals to their death and sometimes giving them visions of it. It makes his words of encouragement in Hades 2 trailer, at least a little suspicious, suggesting that this version has any connection to its mythological counterpart.
Apollo - God of Light
Voiced by Colin Ryan, Apollo is one of Melino's allies and proposes to her good in Aide 2. The God of Light and Sun can boost Melino's attack damage in a limited radius and provides an explosive cast that some fans liken to Trippy Dionysus from the first game.
The ancient Greeks associated Apollo with archery and music, and his related symbols included the golden bow and a harp-like instrument called the lyre. Supergiant Games included both in their depiction of Apollo, giving him a golden bow with several lyre-like strings. Other Apollo associations included healing, prophecy, and more, as it is not clear if Supergiant includes any of these elements in the depiction. Apollo в Aide 2.
Nemesis - Retribution Incarnate
Voiced by Becca K. Koh, Nemesis is Moros' sister and another of Melino's ally in Aide 2. As the goddess of retribution, she is traditionally associated with justice and divine punishment, especially in cautionary tales of pride. However, the Romans also associated Nemesis with soldiers and gladiators and revered her as the personification of imperial justice. Perhaps this influenced her appearance in "Aide 2which depicts Nemesis as a muscular warrior goddess clad in vaguely Roman armor.
Dora - Sluggish shadow
Voiced by Erin Yvette, Dora is a shadow that Melino interacts with during her search. Unfortunately, there isn't much information available about Dora or her role in the story. However, her brief appearance in the trailer indicates that she is at least somewhat friendly with Melino. She also appears to be a humorous character, appearing as a terrifying ghost before resignedly asking if Melino is okay with being called a "witch".
Hades - god of the dead
Voiced by Logan Cunningham, Hades is the king of the underworld, the god of the Earth's mineral wealth, and the father of Melino and Zagreus. Hades was the antagonist in the first game, serving as its final boss. However, he and Zagreus eventually develop a degree of mutual respect. While not much is known about Melino's relationship with her father, they do not appear to be as overtly antagonistic.
Hades' duties also include punishing the Primordial Gods and Titans. Hades 2 sees his titular god imprisoned by the titan Chronos, who has escaped from Tartarus to wage war on the Olympian gods.
Zeus - King of the Olympians
Voiced by Peter Canavese, Zeus rules over the gods of Olympus and is the younger brother of Hades. He became the King of the Gods after the overthrow of Chronos and the imprisonment of the Titans in Tartarus. Despite saving Hades from Chronos' wrath, the two gods have an icy relationship at the games, with Hades refusing to speak to his brother due to Zeus' selfish behavior. The first game also reveals that it was Zeus who sent Persephone to Hades as a "consolation prize", an act that Hades resented and feared would lead to war between the gods.
Chronos - Titan of Time
Chronos is Hades, Zeus, father of Poseidon and leader of the Titans. After escaping the Underworld, the Time Titan seeks to defeat the Olympian Gods and reclaim his throne. Chronos does not appear anywhere in Hades trailer or hades 2. However, titans are mentioned throughout the first Aida, and the titular god comments on their brutality.
In Greek mythology, Chronos is the son of the personifications of earth and sky. He overthrew his father and then devoured his children so they wouldn't betray him. Only Zeus escaped and defeated Chronos and saved his siblings. He and possibly the other Titans serve as an antagonist Aida 2, and Melino vows to kill him in the game's trailer.
