Everything We Know About 156 League of Legends Champions: History, Abilities, Release Date
The 156th League of Legends Champion is coming soon in Season 11. Riot's recent Champion Roadmap clarified his role, so here's what we know so far.
Gwen just appeared in the game, but the next LoL champion might be on her heels.
Roadmap Riot for April 2021 revealed new details about the 156 champion who should master the middle lane as an "unconventional shooter". Here's what we know so far.
LoL 156 Champion Design: Abilities and More
Riot developer Ryan "Reav3" Mireles shared a snapshot of what the newest addition to Runeterra will be like.
Their kit will be specifically designed for the mid role, unlike other shooters who were originally created for the bot lane.
“While champions like Lucian, Corky, and Tristana saw mid play, none of them felt tailor-made for that position, with traits you often see on champions in this lane, such as specially designed movement patterns and a focus on firefights."
“We felt that a mid sniper would not only add a unique champion to the roster, but could be quite appealing to many assassins and skirmishers in the mid.”
There were two images on the champion's roadmap to accompany this annotation: one depicting a Shuriman village overrun by the Black Mist, and the other depicting a grappling hook. With references like "grapple" and "swing", it looks like this champion will use a harpoon to dominate the mid lane.
LoL 156 champion story
The champion leak called him "the adorable Guardian of the Light", which means their lore will be closely tied to Senna, Lucian, and their fight between Viego and the rest of Destruction.
The Sentinel Lights are an ancient order of hunters based in the Blessed Isles. Obviously, this would make the creatures of the Shadow Islands their mortal enemies.
Most of the Guardians of the Light across Runeterra are dead except for one named. Daovan , which helped protect Ionia from the Black Mist. It could be a new champion joining the roster, especially with Reav3 writing that "things are looking pretty bleak for Senna and Lucian right now, but maybe some new Guardians can revive their hope", but that's just speculation.
However, with game release Ruined King in 2021, Riot is really pumping up content on this runeterra lore side story.
LoL 156 champion release date
With the release of Gwen in the League of Legends 11.8 patch, it will probably be some time before the 156th champion visits LoL.
Reav3 has confirmed that the champion will "come to the Rift this summer", meaning we can probably expect him between June and July.
