The world of Minecraft may be full of color and charm, but every biome is home to many deadly enemies. Luckily, there are several sword enchantments you can use to keep your enemies at bay.
Enchanting your sword not only increases its damage, but also gives you game-changing buffs and effects.
From enchantments that knock your enemies back to those that increase mob dropouts, there are plenty of magical properties that can turn a humble Minecraft sword into the ultimate weapon. However, knowing which enchants to use can be a little tricky, so be sure to check out the description below to find out what each one does.

discard
The Knockback Charm is incredibly useful for those looking to increase the distance between themselves and their enemies. Just one fatal blow will knock back even the most brutal enemies. The knockback can be doubled, allowing the player to send mobs six blocks away.
Combine Knockback with a bow to quickly take out enemies before they can get to you, or send them spiraling into the abyss below.
The plot of fire
As the name suggests, Plot of Fire fills the sword with red-hot flames. This spell sets the target on fire for up to four seconds, causing all enemies hit to take burning damage for the duration.
While most Minecraft mobs will take damage from Fire Aspect's flames, there are a few that are immune to its scorching hot hits. Nether-exclusive mobs are inherently resistant to fire, so it's often best to avoid using this enchantment if you want to kill them.
Additionally, any enemies killed with the Aspect of Fire's sword drop cooked meat, making it the perfect cooking weapon.
bane of arthropods
Bane of Arthropods increases damage dealt to Spiders, Cave Spiders, Silverfish, Bees, and Endermites. This makes it an ideal enchantment for exploring caves and foraging early in the game.
This damage buff can be applied to both a sword and a pickaxe, giving intrepid explorers an incredibly reliable way to deal with low-level mobs. Bane of Arthropods can be upgraded up to a maximum of five times, increasing damage with each level gained.
Extraction
Whether you want to farm specific mobs or just want more materials for your heroic efforts, Looting Enchantments let you do just that. To make matters even better, this enchantment also increases the drop rate of rarer monster materials. Make sure to use Looting Charms to speed up your monster hunting.
Indestructibility
Breaking weapons and tools is part of the Minecraft cycle. Even the best items will eventually break, but irresistible enchantments will help reduce the wear and tear on your weapons, tools, and armor. While Unbreaking doesn't guarantee certain items won't break, it greatly increases the chances that an enchanted item's durability won't decrease.
These are extremely useful enchantments that are especially useful when you want your items to last a little longer. After all, constantly creating new ones can be a little tedious, especially when you need rarer materials to craft them.
Pungency
Sharpness is similar to the Arthropodbane enchantment in that it enhances your sword's damage output. However, unlike the insect kill spell above, Sharpness deals additional damage to any enemy mob.
This spell can be upgraded up to five times, making it absolutely devastating when combined with the most powerful swords and axes in the game.
Heavenly punishment
Undead enemies in Minecraft are some of the toughest in the game thanks to their high damage output, so if you find yourself struggling to survive against hordes of undead, then this enchantment is a must. Smite can be upgraded up to five times, adding 2,5 additional damage to each hit. This makes fighting skeletons and zombies in Minecraft incredibly easy.
Fix
Repair is extremely useful if you have a weapon that you want to keep forever. This enchantment automatically restores your weapons, tools, and armor whenever you consume any experience orbs.
Essentially, this allows the player to use their most prized possessions without fear of breaking them. Consider using this enchantment when your gear gets a little worn out.
Curse of loss
When a sword or piece of equipment is enchanted with Curse of Loss, it will disappear from the player's world upon death. You can mitigate this effect by simply dropping the empowered enchanted item on the floor before your health bar drops to zero.
While it may seem rather extreme, this spell is great for those of you who love to play on Minecraft PvP servers.
Shattering Blade
While Minecraft's general sword slash is great in 1v1 scenarios, it can leave you on your toes against hordes of enemies. We've all been in scenarios where a swarm of zombies or skeletons took us by surprise. This can be especially problematic when you are busy exploring underground caves or mining.
After all, the lack of space makes it difficult to fight multiple enemies. Luckily, Sweeping Edge allows you to deal even more damage to multiple opponents with just one sword swipe.
With all these Minecraft sword enchantments, you will be able to handle everything the game throws at you.
