Total War Saga: Troy - Paris Game Guide

Paris

From the point of view of history, Paris is the most controversial hero of the Trojan War. In the Iliad, he is described as a vain, narcissistic goldfinch who unleashed a war, and a coward who refused to go out to a duel that could settle everything.

Paris

Choosing Paris as commander in Total War Saga: Troy, you can redeem him.

For some reason, Paris gets one of his brother's best units - the Trojan Protectors. On the other hand, he doesn't have Hector's Chosen, but he has two types of the best archers in the game - noble Trojans and their improved version of Trojan princes, as well as Trojan chariot archers. To be honest, his archers are so good (and Paris buffs them up when he leads an army) that you can win battles just by spamming defender positions with them. They have high survivability even in automatic battle resolutions.

Arguing with Hector over the Heir of Priam mechanic is laughable, but can be stressful, as earning Priam's favor will become more difficult each time (the higher you climb the "hierarchical ladder", accumulating favor). Some of the goals you set may seem unattainable. For example, when asked to create a third level wine merchant without any buildings from the same chain (previous levels). Even if I had the resources, the construction time would exceed the 10-turn limit. You simply have to come to terms with this.

Moving Elena around to keep her and Paris happy will be annoying, but for the most part it's justified as it will provide massive happiness and prosperity buffs to the territory they're in. Assuming you use your epic hero in combat (which obviously will happen), chances are you'll have to drop Elena into war-ravaged regions. This is very useful because it guarantees (almost 100%) that the situation in them will be stable. Paris is great for those who like to fortify and expand their conquered territories rather than burn them to the ground.

About the starting position of Paris

The starting position of Paris is rated as "difficult". Presumably because your first opponent - the invading Achaeans from Macaria - are in a stronger position, with two settlements on Lesbos to your south and an army on the mainland. However, there is nothing to worry about.

Defeat his army on the mainland and populate Gamaxit to merge the starting province with that region. And then you'll find Hector helping to contain the Achaeans. In fact, your main concern is to prevent Hector from taking Lesbos from Paris by any means, since he is very valuable: he provides access to a mythical unit (harpies), as well as to bronze and stone, valuable resources at the beginning of the game. However, until you become a little stronger, I do not recommend attacking the Trojan faction occupying Methymna. There can be no talk of declaring war on Hector. Ideal Scenario: Makaria takes Methymna and then you take the whole island.

Be that as it may, you should not be afraid of the first opponent, but you may find that Agamemnus is already sniffing out the situation. Be extremely careful. He starts out in a protective alliance with Sparta, and may well have made several non-aggression pacts with other Greek heroes by the time he arrives. Declaring war on him will get you into conflict with the biggest powers in Greece and should be avoided at all costs. At least until you are completely ready. Then a completely logical question arises: where to draw strength from?

You need to take away the land from those who cannot offer serious resistance, who do not have strong allies. Cast your gaze south and east to places like Eritre and Kima. There are a lot of weak Trojan factions out there that aren't as closely aligned with your current allies, so attacking them won't upset anyone. However, try to finish what you started: the stronger inhabitants of the region, such as the Carians, will be a constant headache. At the most inconvenient time for you, they will try to return their former possessions. This is another good reason to put off fighting the Greeks until the last moment in order to minimize any distractions. Celebrities like Hippolyta and Sarpedon will be too powerful, but they also make powerful friends later on. However, in this region there is something to profit without them. You can try to defeat the Trojans closer to home, in Antandros and Thebes, but there is a high probability that Hector has already taken care of them. And it's in your best interest to let him get stronger. He is the best ally in the confrontation with the Greeks.

Paris campaign mechanics

Priam's heir

You will compete with the brother of Paris, Hector, for the favor of his father, for the right to be called the heir to Troy. When you accumulate 400 points of favor of King Priam, he will free the throne for Paris. Then they will unite with Paris, creating a single confederation. Since he personally holds Troy, that means you can control him. However, getting there is quite difficult. Before you reach the coveted 400 units, look out for three levels of favor, each unlocking increasingly powerful buffs and a special hero sent by Priam.

What exactly needs to be done to increase favor varies from level to level. You get +10 points for each mission in the personal quest list - this remains unchanged. The other tasks are very different, starting from the easy ones (gain the favor of Apollo, defeat the Achaeans, increase happiness in the provinces, satiety, and so on) and getting more and more difficult, up to conquering the settlements around the Aegean Sea, demolishing the Achaean settlements (Mycenae), and the like. This competition with his brother will last until the end of the campaign. And at each stage you will not feel like a confident leader.

You can also undermine your brother's activities, causing him to suffer a -10 Priam favor penalty. This will happen if he is 300 gold richer than you, gets wounded in a battle in which you were not present, or is in the same province as you, having a lower level. Funny little things and bickering continue throughout the game.

Elena, my love

Helena and Paris must periodically reunite (that is, be in the same settlement, next to each other, at least for 1 turn) in order to feel happy. Otherwise, they will become sad, which can lead to bad consequences. Elena's mood worsens every four turns she spent away from Paris. When Elena is happy, she gives 10 Joy and +45 Prosperity to the current settlement. When it is gloomy, then joy is reduced by 6 units. During the feeling of loneliness, the penalty is already -10 units of joy for the entire faction.

The mood of Paris also plays an important role. If he is happy, then the army gets +8% morale and -15% upkeep. If it is gloomy, then morale drops by 15%. Solitude inflicts +5% Campaign Movement Range and -10% Morale (which is actually a weaker debuff). If someone else captures the settlement where Elena is located, Paris goes berserk, gaining +5% movement, +10 damage to all units, and +10% morale to all units.

If he manages to recapture the settlement where Elena is located, he receives a heroic buff: +15% to morale and -30% to the maintenance of all units. You can move Elena around the map to any settlement you own, receiving buffs depending on the selected event.

Holidays give +75 prosperity, +10 settlement influence, and +10 neighboring province influence for the next 6 turns. So it's a pretty strong event. Any settlement can arrange a feast. For a modest fee.

If the settlement has a military building, then for 6 turns war games can be played in it. This will give -20% recruitment costs for the local army, +700 experience points to all local units for each turn. If the settlement has a religious building, then prayer meetings can be held in it for 6 turns. In this case, you will receive +16 to joy and + 50% to favor from the rituals of the priestesses of this region.

Unique units and fighting style of Paris

Paris' playstyle and unique units are geared towards fighting enemies from afar. He is focused on ranged advantage, has one of the best archer units in the game. There is also a solid line of defense, and a few fast warriors with axes. Paris can't hire general heroes, but gets Troy's protectors, chariot archers, noble archers, and Trojan princes. The last archer units can shoot directly while moving.
