Top 6 games to play after Elden Ring

Have you explored every corner of the Interearth? Here are 6 other games to try if you enjoyed Elden Ring!

Elden Ring was a triumph for FromSoftware and Bandai Namco, propelling the Souls series to the pinnacle of popularity and hype. Huge game success in the genre is obvious. Now that the Elden Ring journey is coming to an end, many of us are finishing our adventures or taking our first steps in New Game Plus.

Although, once you take your throne as Lord of Elden, it might be worth considering that there are other lands to conquer. Of course, we could just list all the other FromSoftware Souls games below - and some of them do make the list. However, instead we've focused on games that are similar to Elden Ring in other ways, not just Souls-like mechanics.

FromSoftware

The best games like Elden Ring.

Here are 6 other games we can recommend if you like Elden Ring. Some of them have similar open worlds, while others share certain gameplay mechanics:

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

CDProjekt Red

The Witcher 3 has a lot in common with Elden Ring, and like it, Geralt's third entry was also the series' foray into open world territory, taking the franchise to new heights. However, the similarities don't end there. The Witcher 3 is also a dark medieval fantasy adventure set in a fractured world. A world that can be traversed on horseback or on foot, and it asks to be explored or its secrets revealed.

There is also a tonal similarity. Like Elden Ring, many player decisions in The Witcher 3 often lead to morally gray consequences that will leave you doubting yourself for some time. It's clear that The Witcher 3 was one of several games that inspired FromSoftware in creating Elden Ring, and CDProjekt Red's masterpiece was a great place to start.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Nintendo

Comparisons between Elden Ring and Breath of the Wild are self-explanatory. That's because Breath of the Wild brought dungeon-grinding games out of the dark and into wide-open, sunlit highlands.

However, Elden Ring borrows even more from BotW by simply throwing the player into a glorious playground and letting them carve their own path. Breath of the Wild boldly gave players the freedom to create their own story, and Elden Ring takes that baton and goes hand in hand with it.

Demon's Souls (PS5 remake)

Bluepoint Games/PlayStation

Demon's Souls has amazing visuals on PS5.

Not only is Demon's Souls the closest thing to Elden Ring, on PS5 it's also a remake of the game that started it all. Demon's Souls is a faithful recreation of the original Souls game, but completely rebuilt for the current generation. Those who finish Elden Ring and feel the need for another Souls adventure should definitely give this hit a try.

Despite the fact that the remake is being developed by Bluepoint Games and not FromSoftware, the Bluepoint team made sure that the atmosphere remains the same. Therefore, Demon's Souls on PS5 is very similar to Elden Ring, and its bosses look intimidating and also scare the players. Those familiar with Elden Ring will instantly be at home in Demon's Souls, which looks amazing on PS5.

Elder Scrolls: V Skyrim

Bethesda

Can you believe it's been over 10 years since Skyrim was released?

There is little we can say about Skyrim, which hasn't been said before, but for many, Skyrim is still the daddy of open-world fantasy games. If you enjoy slaying dragons in Elden Ring, then you'll love what Skyrim has to offer. When it comes to exploring open worlds and diving into dungeons for loot, Skyrim has shown what's possible.

One could argue that without a fifth Elder Scrolls entry showing what could be achieved, games like The Witcher 3 and Breath of the Wild might not have come out at all. That means Elden Ring too. So, if open-world medieval fantasy adventures are now your favorite and you haven't played Skyrim yet, make Tamriel's northern kingdom your next gaming destination.

Dark Souls 3

FromSoftware

Dark Souls 3 was the last traditional FromSoftware Souls game before Elden Ring, so both games have a lot in common as a result. While FromSoftware created Sekiro after DS3, Elden Ring is far more in keeping with the Dark Souls series than an equally challenging ninja adventure.

While Dark Souls 3 may seem a bit dated today, it was the most ambitious Souls game in the series, featuring a much larger interconnected world than previous titles. It also serves as a satisfying conclusion to the Dark Souls story. However, while Dark Souls 3 closes the door to that universe, it allows the door to be opened to a new one in The Lands Between.

Elden Ring is full of Dark Souls 3 DNA, and those who loved FromSoftware's latest dark open-world adventure should really check out its big brother.

Dragon's dogma

Capcom

Dragon's Dogma has a lot in common with Elden Ring.

While Capcom's own open-world adventure is showing its age, Dragon's Dogma has a legion of vocal fans who are desperate for a sequel. The game manages to combine the exploration of games like Skyrim with the combat action of games like Dark Souls. It may not do as well with either as those two games, but in a way Dragon's Dogma made Elden Ring before Elden Ring.

The game is also available on the Nintendo Switch and works very well on the Nintendo handheld. For those looking for something similar to Elden Ring, Dragon's Dogma will not disappoint you.
