Unlock the balloon

The only way that can guarantee you a meeting with a large number of survivors in Stranded: Alien Dawn, is an expedition that can only be completed after unlocking the balloon.

It can be unlocked once you research and produce liquid fuel, which can be done as follows.

Oil production study

Liquid fuel consists of vegetable oil, which can be obtained once you unlock oil extraction in the research menu.

Oil extraction opens automatically as soon as you get grain that can be harvested.

When grain is produced on your farm, you can start producing vegetable oil by following these steps:

1. Create oil press (10 tree).
2. Insert 20 grains into an oil press.
3. Produce 10 vegetable oils.

The whole process will take up to six in-game hours.

Fuel Mixing Study

Making Vegetable Oil will open the Fuel Blending tab in the Research menu, which can be used to make Liquid Fuel with the following recipe:

• 10 Vegetable oil.

This recipe can be crafted at a workbench and will produce 10 liquid fuel within six game hours.

Exploration Long distance travel

Finally, you can unlock the hot air balloon from the Long Travel tab in the Research menu.

In order to create a balloon you need to open the Science menu and use the following recipe:

• 20 sticks.
• 10 metal alloys.
• 50 Fabric / Leather.

You will also need to add 30 liquid fuel to the completed balloon in order for it to function.

Start an Expedition for Survivors

After building the balloon, players can finally begin the expedition process by choosing one of their survivors to go on the journey.

Required give this survivor armor or at least warm clothes, as the entire expedition takes about two in-game hours in potentially very cold and dangerous conditions.

Here are the most important tips for finding new survivors while traveling in a hot air balloon:

• Follow the signal flair and head in that direction. There is a high chance that the survivor may need help.
• Watch the rising smoke, which is a possible sign that the survivor is sitting next to the campfire.
• Restart your saved gameif you didn't find anything but corpses. RNG may change after restarting the game.

Please note that you can collect a maximum of four additional survivors during your expeditions, for a total of eight survivors in any campaign.

Keep your survivors happy

Another way to increase the chances of you running into new survivors is to increase the overall happiness of your current survivors.

There are many ways you can improve the happiness of your survivors, in addition to meeting their basic needs for food, water, clothing, and a place to sleep.

Here are the main ones that you should definitely consider:

• Room size. Be sure to build rooms in your huts larger than 3x3 blocks. For example, a 3x3 room only gives +3 Happiness, while a 3x4 room gives +9, and so on.
• dartboard. Games make survivors happy, and the best game to create is the dartboard found in the Furniture menu. Here is the crafting recipe:
  • 10 Tree.
  • 5 metal alloys.
  • 5 Fabric / Leather.
• Musical Instruments. Another consideration is any musical instrument, the best of which is probably the didgeridoo. It can also be found in the Furniture menu. The crafting recipe is as follows:
  • 5 Tree.
  • 5 metal alloys.
• Wine. Craft multiple barrels and collect bushfruit to make wine that provides similar benefits to games and tools.
  • 100 bushfruit = 5 wine.
