Old Fortnite Map: Will Chapter 1 Island Return?
Let's weigh all the arguments for the return of the old Fortnite map, and see why some players believe that it will return.
With just over 24 hours left before the Galactus live Fortnite event, Epic is preparing some teasers for the biggest Fortnite event we've had so far. We're aware of the upgraded battle bus, jetpacks, and have seen images of the Galactus skin approaching the map.
Once the Galactus event was officially announced on the Epic Games website, players were quick to put forward their predictions as to what would happen during the event and what effect it would have in the upcoming Season 5.
Given that the Chapter 2 map is over a year old, it seems like the vast majority of players want the old map back, and they've come up with a few theories as to why they think it's coming back.
Let's consider bringing back the old Fortnite map after the end of the Galactus live event.
TEST ON IRON MAN'S SUPERCAR AND 88 MPH
One of the Tony Stark awakening challenges in Fortnite requires players to reach 88 mph on the speedometer in Whiplash. Based on this test, players believe that Epic Games is hinting that we will go back in time to the old map, referring to the movie Back to the Future.
In the film, DeLorean must reach 88 miles per hour in order to travel through time. Personally, I don't see a strong argument in this as to why this could indicate the return of the old Fortnite map.
DOWNTIME ACTIVITIES
Several well-known insiders have stated that after the Galactus event, there will be a simple one, similar to a black hole. Based on this, players believe that Epic included this downtime to create anticipation for the new season and bring back the old map. Again, I don't see this as a reason why the Chapter 1 map will return.
DONALD MUSTARD, INTERVIEW
In an interview, Epic Games' world-renowned creative director Donald Mustard stated that Chapter 2 Island is Chapter 1 Island. Chapter 2 Island is "matter" that changes and reorganizes everything on the map.
I'm not quite sure how to interpret this. Maybe that means we can still get the old Fortnite map back if Galactus takes point zero, or maybe we'll merge the chapter 1 and chapter 2 map together.
Either way, I don't believe the original Fortnite map will return as it did in the chapter. If it were to return, I would imagine that Epic would be able to merge both maps together, well, or we will get the ability to online transition from the new to the old map and vice versa during the game. This would be very interesting, which would automatically increase the time spent in battle, given that you were not killed immediately.
