Fortnite New Year's Eve Event - All That Is Known

Unsurprisingly, Epic Games has plans to celebrate the New Year in Fortnite, and today the specific plans for the upcoming New Year's event, which we learned ahead of time, were revealed.

Loyal Fortnite players know that the game is full of limited-time events and special collaborations with various franchises. From the latest Star Wars crossover, which featured an exclusive clip from Skywalker that premiered in-game, to the Christmas Fest, there's never a shortage of unique additions for fans to enjoy.

While celebrating the New Year is nothing new for a competitive Battle Royale title, eagle-eyed Fortnite players spotted a familiar sight that could hint at upcoming action as we move into 2020.

Fortnite dance fans will be sure to enjoy every hour as the festivities continue!

In the past, Epic Games launched a global game-wide countdown that ticked until the start of the New Year. As soon as the timer ended, fireworks were launched into the sky and a huge disco ball hovered over the entire map, making each and every player dance and celebrate the New Year no matter where they were on the map.

Eventually, one massive fireworks exploded in 2019, and the short period of festivities came to an end as regular competition resumed. This sequence of events repeated every hour for an hour until the end of the event.

While no one knows for sure what Epics have in store for New Year's celebrations this time around, it looks like the disco ball has been spotted in the world of Fortnite again. This indicates that players can enjoy a very similar experience as they did 12 months ago.

Originally discovered by Reddit user "NoVa_Warrior“, the giant disco ball can actually be seen when it looks up at the sky in play mode. Since the object is currently in place and apparently available in the Fortnite files, it looks like Epic is planning to reuse the effect one more time.

The developers have not yet provided any official confirmation, so take the new information with a grain of salt. The disco ball effects may very well be different as we head into 2020, or perhaps the auto dance will only happen in creative lobbies this time around, for example.

Typically, recurring events are seasoned in new ways. Whether it's new items or new areas of the map, Fortnite tends to keep dedicated players on their toes. For example, the Winterfest 2019 event changed the functions of the limited-time Snowman item, changing the rarity as a direct result.

With the Christmas-themed Winterfest event running until January 6th and the Star Wars crossover still in full swing, it's likely that the New Year holidays will be short again to avoid too many big events overlapping everything at once.

Perhaps players will find some awesome ways to celebrate the New Year's Eve spectacle, as other limited-time Star Wars events have done. Lately, players have been dropping their loot to honor tradition and duel with lightsabers to determine the winner.
