Fishing is a great way to earn money in Shenmue 3. Players will be able to fish at fishing spots and receive money at the end of their fishing session.
Buying a fishing rod
In order to start fishing in Shenmue 3, you will first need a fishing rod. You will be able to purchase your first rod after completing the first events of the game and venture beyond the village square. Here you will find Juan's tackle where you can rent a fishing rod.
Talk to Huang and rent one of his fishing rods using Yuan. Rods have different qualities, you will be able to catch the best fish with a better quality rod.
Rods are rented either for 1 fishing session or for the rest of the day (whatever happens first). This means that when you go fishing and start fishing, you will return the rod as soon as you finish fishing and all the fish you get will be automatically sold. Make sure you fish for a while to make sure you get your money back.
Use of a fishing rod
After you rent a rod, you can head to one of the many fishing spots located around the map. You can identify them by their distinctive mark (spot). Some fishing spots are locked and you will have to complete certain quests to unlock them. It is important to note that even if you find a fishing spot, it will remain blocked until you complete the corresponding quest.
To start fishing, walk near the water and select a fish. Aim where you want to pull the catch from and then press the button castto throw a fishing rod.
A small window will appear on the right side of the screen, in which you can see how the fishing line and fish stretch underwater.
Use the reel button to move the line until the fish is caught. At this point, the window on the right will change and you will see a small road and the fish you are currently trying to catch. As the reel moves, the fish will move closer to your location.
To catch a fish you need to pay attention to the arrows shown on the screen marking left or right. Move the rod in the marked direction as you continue to reel in until you catch a fish.
Once the fish is in your possession, you will see its name, size and weight. When you finish your fishing, all the fish you caught will be automatically sold and your rod will be returned.
