Scorn: Act 1 Walkthrough
Scorn begins with our hideous protagonist crawling through the dirt of an alien planet and falling into a deep hole. Now our task is to go forward through a bunch of puzzles in order to complete all five acts of this game and, hopefully, escape from the nightmarish prison we are currently in. Let's start with Act 1 and complete the first Scorn puzzle.
How to open a door in Scorn
The first thing you'll see here when you first take control of the alien protagonist Scorn is the door (pictured below) with an inaccessible area on the right side that has six round buttons. As you progress through the Scorn, you will find and upgrade a key device that shows the order of activation of the buttons to open the doors, but this door is not responding and you have yet to obtain said device, so let's turn around and head down the corridor in the other direction.
As you head down this corridor, you will eventually see a large room with an imposing spiral tower in the center. From this position, you will find a door with one light on the locking mechanism to your left, which we cannot open, and therefore we will take the corridor straight to the right. After going through this corridor, you will go through a door and find the trunk type device shown below, use it to add a spike to the left hand, which will scare our character a lot.
Now head to the right and use the other device in this room to open the door. With your hand in the trunk, look at the right side of the door and click "Use". So you get rid of the blockage and you can move the door using the right mechanism. It is worth noting that as soon as you disconnect from the device, the gate will begin to close. Try to run forward as fast as possible.
How to solve the Egg Wall puzzle in Scorn
When you find yourself in a huge hall, follow the first passage on the right. There is an elevator here that will take you to the first puzzle.
So, before you again several mechanisms. Use the central device to make a platform for eggs or cocoons appear. Now go to the mechanism on the right.
In this guide, we will refer to small, movable, cocoon-like objects as eggs. I don't know if they are eggs, shells or whatever, but we call them eggs for clarity. This right-most mechanism will allow you to move the eggs along the beams in different directions. Some eggs are attached to others, and certain spaces along the beams cannot be used. Your goal, with this puzzle, is to bring a specific egg (marked below) into the space that the bone grabber attempts to grab when activated.
I could try to explain this riddle, but this is one that is mostly trial and error. If the worst comes to worst and you think you messed up, you can always reload your save to spawn in the spiral path structure and try again.
Basically, you want to try to clear space along the top and middle beams by gradually moving the "selected" egg to the left and the rest of the eggs to the right. It's a little tricky, but you can no doubt get the gist when you know what your goal is! You may also have noticed a single egg similar to our "favorites"; If you can fit it into a lighted slot, it will likely shatter to make more space.
Once you finally get the "chosen" egg in the right place, go again and interact with the middle pillar to have the grapple pick it up. The claw will place the egg on a kind of elevator and it will come down.
Now return to the elevator that brought you to this level and go down again.
Here we will call the "chosen" egg "entity". Again, I don't know what that thing is, so that's her nickname at the moment. Returning to the main room, which has a structure with a spiral path, you will hear the entity whimpering. Walk around and look up and you will eventually see it dangling above.
Beneath the entity is a kind of skeletal throne, and just behind it is another pillar. Interact with the mechanism to control the bone grab and use it to grab the entity and lower it onto the throne.
Now, I'm not entirely sure if this next part is necessary, but given that this is what I did before continuing, I advise you to do this too in case it's important for Scorn to continue.
Push the entity along the paths until you reach the next small structure, which appears to have a sort of head sticking out of it. With the creature underneath it, interact with the nearby mech to essentially give the creature a bad time.
After getting that out of the way, leave the creature and finally go up the spiral staircase in the center of the room. Interact with the mechanism at the top and you will be able to switch paths. Look at the image below which shows the correct sequence.
Nothing further complicated. We control the elevator to move the creature to a makeshift chair, and kill it. Take your hand and return to the central hall.
Run to the locked door and stop at the first device. First you need to find a pipe that will upgrade the received hand. To do this, turn left and inspect a small tunnel. There is a pipe here.
Return to the door. Leave your hand in the device on the left, and interact with the mechanism on the right. Move on to the next location.
And there it is, you've completed Act 1-1 and can now move on to Act 1-2 and the next puzzle!
