Walkthrough Reckoning God of War: Ragnarok

Meet Brock at the Mystic Gate

Return to the Mysterious Gate next to Kratos and Atreus' hut. Kratos, Brock and Freya embark on a journey to Vanaheim, a newly visited world.

Find the source of Freya's curse and destroy it.

You start in the Southern Wilds region. As you explore this new area, you must beware of the round blue plants (screenshot above). When they get close to them, they will explode and place a debuff on Kratos that deals damage over time.

Be sure to take them out from a distance and look around carefully as they are easy to miss (they can spawn on walls or ceilings).

During the first and subsequent combat sections in which Legion monsters appear (be sure to keep a distance from them), you can ask Brock for help - a single press of the "Square" button directs him to the enemy, holding "Square" stuns the target.

Further along the path, you will also come across plants that shoot projectiles (in the above screenshot). To avoid the projectile, just dodge to the side. You can throw an ax to destroy them, but this is only possible when they are open.

Along the way, the heroes will meet the Wulver. In addition to standard attacks, be prepared to quickly press X if the beast starts to fight Kratos.

Once you get to the spiked barricade, throw the Leviathan ax at the hook in the middle (screenshot above). You should finally get to Frey's Camp, which is a safe place with additional allied camps. Explore the camp (you'll also return here later in the mission), or if you want to continue the quest, talk to Freyr right away.

Keep searching for the source of Freya's curse

The exit from the camp will be marked - Kratos and Freya will go on a new campaign.

Watch out for new exploding plants along the way. Further along the way, you will encounter a mini-boss - the Ancient Forest. Fighting him is not difficult. Upon defeat, the Ancient Forest will leave behind a Flame of Chaos, an item that can be used to upgrade the Blade of Chaos.

In the next area, use the Blades of Chaos to set fire to the brambles. During the next combat sequence, you can grab trees and throw them at opponents. You will finally reach East Barry Forest. Beware of all types of plants.

When facing the Einherjar warriors, use a shield strike (L1 twice). Also, avoid the bifrost debuff and take care of the archers in the combat area quickly. Here you will also have to face the beast Gradungr, whose unique feature is the orange stripe of armor. This means you need to pierce through it first - Leviathan's ice ax attacks work best. Only when the armor is finished will you be able to change weapons and continue the massacre. During the battle, try to avoid the burning effect created by Gradungr.

Cross the valley to reach the watchtower.

Follow the rocky path and jump to the nearest ledges. One of them is under Kratos (point your camera at him to see him) and then turn the other way to grab the hanging hook (screenshot above).

In the next battle, you will face the Cursed Nokken for the first time, an enemy distinguished by its ability to heal allies. Chase the Nokken as she will try to hide and run - you will find it easier to find her through the partially visible green connections. Once you're done with the Nokken, you'll be able to deal with the remaining monsters that are no longer healing.

Throw an ax at the round faucet button to change its position. This will allow you to use the loop. You will reach the Abandoned Village.

During the next encounter with the Einherjar warriors, use the Death from Above attack, which can be activated while hanging on hooks. Once the battle is won, find the chain and pull on it until the gate is fully open (releasing it early will close the gate).

The next area is filled with poisonous blue air - don't get in pairs as Kratos will quickly lose health and die. To clear the area, you need to throw an ax at a poison-producing plant (in the screenshot). Run to the other side and only then call Leviathan. Pull the chain you found to unroll the rope and use it to descend. Follow the path laid out by the ledges - with the help of blades if necessary.

Find a way to cross the broken bridge

There is a broken bridge ahead, and unlocking the path ahead is tied to a puzzle - your task is to reach the path visible in the distance.

Go left, look down and set fire to the vines with the Blades of Chaos (screenshot above). This will open a burning hanging basket.

Turn to the crane mechanism and throw the ax at the shield on the right. This will rotate it 90 degrees. An interactive hook will appear in front of you (screenshot above), and you can use it to get to the far ledge.

After landing on the shelf, turn back to the crane. Throw the ax at the shield on the right again.

Wait for the faucet to stop - you should see a burning basket in front of you, followed by creepers. Grab the basket with the Blades of Chaos (screenshot above) and swing it around to set the nearby vines on fire.

It's time to finish - hit the shield on the left with an ax so that an interactive hook appears in front of you. Return to the starting point and throw the ax at the shield on the right. A hitch will appear in front of you - use it to get to a new path.

Move forward in search of a curse

You will reach a narrow path. Behind him you will meet Fiske - the boss, who is one of the captains of Odin. You can start the fight using some ranged attacks. The boss will take some time to get up off the ground and approach Kratos. Later in the fight, melee attacks are the best option as the combat area is unfortunately relatively small.

Fiske can combo with his large scythe. You should be able to block the first two attacks without any problems, but the last hit can be a yellow or red attack. You can parry or dodge yellow attacks, while red attacks can only be dodged.

The boss can also perform single red attacks - strong scythe strikes. You have to dodge them at the perfect moment. The scythe, unfortunately, has a considerable range, and there is a high risk that you will be hit by a red attack after dodging at the wrong time.

Some boss attacks can also be marked with blue rings - you can interrupt this attack. Press the L1 button 2 times to perform a shield strike.

Fiske's attacks can trigger Bifrost. If you get it, try to avoid further damage for a while to avoid an explosion and heavy damage.

The boss can be stunned (you can easily fill up the white bar by stopping blue attacks with a shield strike, for example). Press R3 quickly after approaching a boss to deal massive damage.

Also don't forget to use Spartan Fury to quickly weaken the boss or heal Kratos.

At the very end of the fight, the boss will be stunned again. Perform execution (R3).

Upon victory, the boss leaves behind, among other things, a relic. Use the Blades of Chaos to destroy the gate and open the exit from the arena.

On the way to the ruins, watch out for the plants. You can use the Blades of Chaos in the spot in the picture and this will unlock the shields that you can throw the Leviathan at. Use the hitch and complete the climb up.

Get to the gate. Behind him is a boss fight against the giant serpent Nidhogg.

The first phase

Nidhogg's health is displayed as one long bar of energy, but at certain points in the battle you will transition to new phases of him and the boss's movements will change.

The snake uses its yellow mouth attack very often. Parry attempts can be problematic, so it's best to dodge to the side. Fortunately, this attack is reported in advance, and you have time to react.

Another yellow attack is due to Nidhogg hitting the arena with his upper limbs. Again, we recommend avoiding.

One of the most dangerous moves is a red attack that creates a bifrost field in front of the boss. You must dodge backwards in time to avoid taking damage and avoiding the debuff

Requires good dodge skill for a red attack that sends out waves of bifrost. The boss indicates its beginning by raising the left or right limb, which will be used to create the wave. As soon as you see this, run to the side and be ready to dodge to reduce the chance of being hit.

You can damage the boss by hitting him in the head - try to get close to the head every time after one of the most powerful attacks.

Nidhogg, after taking enough damage, will be stunned - when this happens, run up to the snake and press R3 (right analog stick) to launch a strong attack - Kratos will grab the boss with chains and start yanking him.

As the battle progresses, the boss will begin to use tail attacks, and this is specifically a blue attack that sticks his tail into the ground. To counter him, you must quickly run up to the boss and interrupt the charging process - press the L1 button twice to hit the boss with a shield.

A successful counterstrike will stun the boss for a few seconds, allowing you to retaliate with your attacks. Failure to resist will create a shockwave that will deal significant damage and apply a bifrost effect.

From now on, Nidhogg will send out two waves when attacking the upper limb (red attack). This means that you must perform two dodges in a row.

After the boss loses about 4 parts of his health bar, he will grab Kratos and you will have to fight the beast - press X in quick succession. After Freya's attack, the second phase of the battle begins.

The second phase

From now on in the battle, Freya will help you in battle, but basically it will depend on you to further deplete the boss's health bar.

Nidhogg will start using beam attacks - horizontal and vertical. These are normal attacks, so you can hold the block button and avoid damage. It is also easy to dodge to the side during vertical attacks.

The boss will start using a red attack which involves driving blades into the ground - they will appear in the rifts created by the snake. To counter, you must quickly move out of the areas that Nidhogg plans to attack. The boss can launch up to 3 such attacks in a row, so be prepared after the first dodge for possible subsequent attacks.

Another of the boss's attacks is to absorb items from the arena. Don't get caught in it and don't run sideways. Also, be prepared to defend yourself against flying absorbable objects.

Nidhogg's new yellow attack involves firing projectiles from his tail. This is best dealt with by dodging.

At some point during the fight, Freya will tell you to target the seals she created. Throw an ax at the seal and it will explode. A successful roll should knock the boss off the tree it is wrapped around.

Over time, Freya will create a new set of seals, but this time they will need to be hit with the Blades of Chaos. Hitting this set will set fire to the bottom of the tree.

Keep weakening the boss until he has only 1 health bar left. Nidhogg will fall into the arena - run up to him and press R3.

The third phase

You've reached the final part of the confrontation, and after the cutscene depicting Kratos and Freya attacking together, you need to deal with the last part of the health bar.

At the final stage, the attacks of the boss become even more powerful and furious. you need to avoid multiple bifrost waves in a row. Freya will create a seal next to the belly of the monster - throw an ax at it. This will stun the boss and open him up to standard attacks. Finish and press R3 for the last time - the snake will be executed.

The defeated Nidhogg leaves behind, among other things, the Frozen Flame, an item that can be used to upgrade the Leviathan Axe. Another major reward is a special amulet. It can store spells that give various bonuses to the characteristics of Kratos (the first spell received improves ranged damage). By default, the amulet has only 2 spell slots, but as you progress through the game, you can buy additional ones in shops (you need special unique reagents that are found as loot).

Return to Freya's camp

From now on, Freya will turn into a human form and will accompany you during battles and puzzles.

The first opportunity to use Freya's help appears instantly, as you need to destroy the red heavy vines shown in the screenshot. You need to ask her to use the sigil arrow. Use the Blades of Chaos on the revealed seal to make it explode, destroying the vines.

You can now use Sigil Arrows in combat - their damage is increased if the target enemy is frozen or set on fire.

You will enter the western part of the forest. The way forward is blocked by a poisonous mist caused by two plants. This is a problem, as hitting one plant will not clear the fog. Have Freya hit the plants with sigil arrows and finish them off with a throw of the Leviathan Axe. Unfortunately, the plants are only disabled for a while - use the opportunity and keep going forward.

On the way forward, you will encounter Wisps - they are initially immune to Kratos' attacks. You have to ask Freya to shoot an arrow - this almost always results in an instant kill.

The time of day will change during the hike. This happens automatically the first time, but later it will be possible to change the time of day as desired. Further on, you will encounter indestructible plants - in order to advance, you need to find the egg-shaped central plant and destroy it with the Blades of Chaos.

During the next battle, you will learn about the ability to destroy enemy shields with sigil arrows - you need to choose targets for Freya. Enemies hit are also vulnerable to elemental attacks.

You will come across a puzzle involving combining the seals to create a chain reaction. Now you need to destroy the red vines, but they are out of reach of the Blades of Chaos.

Ask Freya to form 3 seals (as shown in the screenshot above) - they must connect so that a chain reaction can occur. Hit the blades on the left seal marked in the picture. They should explode from left to right and set fire to the vines. Now you can grab the hold and get to the other side.

During the next battle, you will learn that you can poison opponents - with the sigil arrows selected, hold the square (alternative command for Freya).

Complete the ascent sequence. The heroes returned to Frey's camp (screenshot above). Make sure Mimir accompanies you. You can unlock new side quests by talking to Lunda and Byggvir.

Leave Frey's camp when you're ready.

The new destination leads through a narrow passage near the rocks. On the way to the Mystic Gate, you will receive a guide to managing Freya's equipment and skills. You can switch between Kratos and Freya in the inventory window (L1 and R1 buttons). She also has her own skill tree.

You will reach the secret passage shown in the screenshot - now that you are with Freya, you can interact with it. Create a runic inscription and ask Freya to interact (Square).

A little further down the road you will again have to create a chain reaction. Place several seals next to each other - you need to hit the nearest seal with the Blades of Chaos and make them explode one by one for the explosion to reach the red vines.

Order Freya to switch to sonic arrows (direction button up). They must hit the newly discovered green object.

Now you can use the boat. Swim to reach the area with the Mysterious Gate (screenshot) and a shop. Now you have a choice:

  • Go straight to the Mysterious Gate - this way you will leave Vanaheim and return to the House of Sindri and be able to continue the main story.
  • Keep exploring Vanaheim - you can now destroy an obstacle on the river with a sonic arrow.

Additional exploration of Vanaheim may yield more loot and unlock additional side quests (including Freya's personal quest), but you won't be able to visit all the locations, and some of the monsters you encounter may be difficult to defeat.

Check Atreus

Enter Sindri's house. Go to Atreus' room (the door is marked).

After the cut-scene, you will take control of Atreus, starting a new story mission - The Fugitive.
