Description of Sea of Thieves 2.7.0 update for Season 8

Season 8 of Sea of Thieves lures players back into the treacherous waters of the popular multiplayer game Rare. Season 8 brings on-demand PvP between two factions that players can team up with, accompanied by the opportunity to earn loyalty, captain leveling, cosmetics, and more. In this guide, we break down Update 2.7.0 piece by piece, going into more detail.

Sea of Thieves 2.7.0 Update Overview

The Sea of Thieves: Season Eight update was released on November 22, 2022 and will run for 22 weeks.

The update is entirely dedicated to the new PvP mode: Battle for the Sea of Thieves. In this guide, we will analyze in detail how the new mode works.

Robbers Pass

Sea of Thieves has a Battle Pass. Named in the game: "The Robbers' Pass"

This pass, like many others, contains two branches of rewards. Regular and Premium.

On a regular pass which is available to everyone for free, robbers include rewards in the form of in-game items and various currencies, including ancient coins.

The "premium" branch contains only items that are or will be in the Pirate Shop. There will be no exclusive items in this branch, so players will not have an opinion about buying this pass, for the sake of some limited item.

The pass can be purchased at the Pirate Shop and it will cost the player 999 ancient coins, which is equivalent to $10. In Russia and Belarus can not be purchased due to sanctions! (The reason is specific to Microsoft.)

There are 100 levels in the Plunder Pass. Leveling these levels depends on performing various actions in the game, for example: Dig up a treasure, kill a skeleton, swim another mile, visit an island, put treasure on a ship, etc. In addition to these actions, challenges also appear in the game, for the completion of which, you will accelerate the raising of levels in your pass.

We will talk about rewards below, in the corresponding section!

Season XNUMX Rewards.

  • By representing the Golden Guardians in their Emissary Book, Tribute Peak Banjo and Hardy-Gurdy players can now earn.
  • Players seeking the secrets of the Order of Souls can earn Banjo's Relic of Darkness and Hurdy-Gurdy.
  • The Trade Alliance is honoring its high performing Ledger Representatives with Trade Ambassador Banjo and Hurdy-Gurdy.
  • By flying the Reaper's Bones flag and earning a high rank in their Book, players can earn Renegade and Hardy Gurdy masked banjos.
  • Legendary Pirates representing the State of Athena in their Book can earn Magpie Glory Banjo and Hardy Gurdy to show their allegiance to the Pirate Lord.

New Emissary Rewards

In Season XNUMX, players are unlocked to receive new Emissary Banjos and Lyres. If you own all the emissary items, you can get these items starting from the rating month of December. Great gift for the new year! 🙂

New factions

Two new factions focused strictly on PvP have been added to the game. For both factions, new zones have been added that cannot be entered until certain conditions are met.

Servants of the Flame

Servants of the Flame are a child faction of Dead Man's Bones.

The location of the Servants of the Flame is located in the basement of the Death Haven and is called "The Reapers' Lair".

To unlock access to the Reaper's Lair, the following criteria must be met:

  • Upgrade a faction "Dead Man's Bones" up to level 75;
  • Upgrade a faction "Servants of the Flame" up to 100 loyalty level.

In the basement, a full-fledged location awaits you, with new NPCs, a tavern, a combat map, and an area where the Ritual of Flame takes place.

Most often in the Reaper's Lair, you will interact with the Blacksmith. This NPC sells unique cosmetics for the Skeleton Curse. By completing various achievements, you will be able to unlock cosmetic items such as the color of the bones, the design of the head, torso, and lower skeleton.

At the very depth of the location is a hall for the Ritual of the Flame. In this hall, the Voice of the Flame will be waiting for you, which will conduct the Ritual.

Also at the location you will meet a two-headed skeleton: Hammer and Anvil. These heads hate each other because constantly get in the way of doing their own thing, but they work great. This NPC is responsible for information about who currently dominates the seas and who can be found more often in the seas.

Next to the Hammer and the Anvil there is a world map where you can view the current situation of your server and find other ships if they are fighting in the new PvP mode or if the Warrior has appeared on the location (We will talk about this a little later).

treasure keepers

The Treasure Keepers are a sub faction of the Treasures of Athena.

The location of the Treasure Keepers is located in the Legendary Tavern. The legendary tavern received an update and expanded. In order to open the passage to this zone, it will be enough to talk with the High Pirate. However, there are other mandatory criteria:

  • Legendary pirate status;
  • Upgrade a faction "Treasure Keepers" up to 100 loyalty level.

In the location, you will get acquainted with new and old NPCs, the combat map and the area where the ceremony of receiving the blessing of "Treasures of Athena" takes place.

In the far part of the location, you will find Belle and Merrick. Next to them, you can start the ceremony of receiving the ghost's curse.

Also at the location you will meet the Chronicler. This bard is responsible for information about who currently dominates the seas and who is more likely to be found in the seas.

Next to the Chronicler is a world map where you can view the current situation of your server and find other ships if they are fighting in a new PvP mode or if a Warrior has appeared on the location.

You can find new items for the faction from Luke and Liz the shipbuilder.

PvP Mode: Battle for the Sea of Thieves

Starting from Season XNUMX, you can take part in PvP battles, turning them into explosive ship battles that take place on the high seas of adventure.

About mode

You will be able to fight as one of two opposing factions: Treasure Keepers, who are loyal to the Pirate High and his allies.

And the Servants of the Flame who swear allegiance to the Burning Heart and the Bones of the Dead.

Crews that have joined any faction can choose whether to represent them by doing their usual pirating business or by actively hunting and sinking the opposing faction's ships.

It all starts with the hourglass of fate, which can be found on the captain's desk of every ship.

You and your team can use them by choosing which faction you want to fight for.

Once you and your crew have voted for your chosen faction, you will receive a warning that you may be attacked. From now on, you are in a passive status. We will talk about statuses below.

For defeating rivals, you will begin to pump the value of the hourglass, and you will also begin to receive loyalty (in the common people - experience) to the faction that you represent.

If you defeat rivals in a row, your ship gets a series of victories. The higher the winning streak, the faster the value of the hourglass rises.

You can benefit from the hourglass by returning to the outpost.

Go to the emissary table at the outpost (Servants of the Flame can also benefit from the Death Haven), and vote to leave the Battle for the Sea of Thieves. You will receive watch value and faction loyalty.

If you sailed under the emissary of the main faction, bonus gold and experience are also provided to you.

If you drown from another ship, the value of the hourglass will be lost and you will be migrated to another server.

Active and passive statuses

Passive status

As soon as you vote on the hourglass for a faction, you find yourself in a passive status.

While swimming under this status, you can still complete tasks. And by loading treasures on the ship, you increase the class of treasures. Thanks to this class, the value of the hourglass increases, and when you successfully defend against the ships that have hunted you, the value will increase, and when you exit the PvP mode at the outpost, bonus gold and loyalty await you!

Important: do not sell your treasures until you leave the battle, otherwise the treasure class will drop with every treasure that leaves the ship!

In this status, another ship of players can sail onto your ship. And you will be forced to fight within a certain radius, depending on the type of ship.

You can also sink enemy faction ships on the high seas, where you can also increase the value of watches.

Active status

In order to become a hunter for other ships, you need to open a military card on the captain's table and vote for finding the enemy. Having gone to the open sea, your ship will go to the bottom and the game will begin to select a worthy opponent.

While looking for an opponent, you can prepare the ship for battle by loading the cannons and filling your pockets.

Once a match has been found, you will begin the surfacing phase and your ship will usually be opposite another ship. After the battle ends, if you survived the battle, you will automatically go into passive mode. To find a new opponent, vote on the military map to find an opponent.

Matchmaking and battle rules

The PvP mode has its own conditions and rules for the game, thanks to which battles can or cannot take place. About everything in order.

The game offers eight possible battle modes:

  • Brigantine vs Galleon (Requires a Warrior for the brig);
  • Sloop (solo, duo) vs Galleon (Requires a Warrior for the sloop);
  • Sloop (solo, duo) vs Brigantine (Requires a Warrior for the sloop);
  • Galleon vs Galleon;
  • Brigantine vs Brigantine;
  • Sloop (Duo) vs Sloop (Duo);
  • Sloop (Solo) vs Sloop (Solo) ;
  • Skirmishes on the high seas: any type of ship (Treasure Keepers) vs any type of ship (Servants of the Flame);

Players can:

  • See 2 crews of different factions currently having a duel.
  • Intervene in someone else's battle and help sink the ship, getting a victory for it.
  • Exit PvP mode if the ship is near the emissary table.
  • See the Warrior of the faction on the world map.
  • Travel in a passive state.

Players may NOT:

  • Exit PvP mode before the end of the first match or 15 minutes after starting PvP mode.
  • End the fight peacefully. One crew is bound to sink.
  • Start searching for an enemy on the military map if there is another player ship within a radius of 2 squares.
  • Start searching for an enemy if the ship is in a battle with a skeleton ship, megalodon, kraken.
  • Being attacked by another hunter ship if you have other ships nearby, if there is a battle with other players, skeleton ships, megalodon, kraken.
  • Launch a search for players with treasure on board. All treasures will remain in the place where you went to the bottom (as when going to the portal). Resource chests are allowed to be transported between worlds.
  • Stay on the same server where your ship was sunk during the battle.
  • Complete tasks in the active status PvP mode
  • Is in PvP mode, performing Tall Tales.
  • Get a victory by sinking the ship of players of the same faction as you.

Battle Features

The battle for Sea of Thieves takes place in a limited radius.

Each ship-to-ship battle has its own radius.

If you leave this radius, you will be warned that you are leaving the battlefield. Regardless of the type of ship, if you move 1 square further than the battle radius, your hourglass on the ship will explode, causing the ship to sink.

  • Sloop battle radius: 3 squares.
  • Brigantine battle radius: 4 squares.
  • Galleon battle radius: 7 squares.

After the end of the battle, the winning team has at least 5 minutes of free time before the hunter ship can get to them. The losing team leaves the server. It will not be possible to play a dirty trick after the ship sinks.

Faction Warrior

By fighting in the new mode and winning over and over again, you increase the winning streak. Due to a series of victories, the value of the hourglass is growing.

Having achieved a series of victories from four, your ship is displayed on the world map. Further victories will bring even more value, but at the same time will attract other players who want to flood you.

If the faction's Warrior's ship is a sloop or brigantine, then these types of ships can start a complicated selection of an opponent. Made for those who like to challenge themselves. You won't receive additional value in the hourglass if you defeat larger ships.

Defeating the faction's Warrior will earn the team an increased amount of hourglass value. (base value 20,000 gold)

winning streak

Rewards for winning battles in a row. The value is indicated without emissary.

1st victory: 10,000 gold
2st victory: 12,000 gold
3st victory: 14,000 gold
4st victory: 16,000 gold
5th victory and beyond: 20,000 gold

So if you complete a streak of 10 wins, your hourglass will cost 172,000 gold.

Defeating the Faction Champion will net you 20,000 gold.

Defeating a faction Warrior while being a Warrior will net you 30,000 gold.

In the new season, we have added two new categories for the Captain's ships, dedicated to the pvp mode. By playing Battle for the Sea of Thieves and representing one or another faction, you can unlock additional cosmetics inside the ship, emblems, souvenirs and more.

  • After diving under the waves to find a rival crew in the Battle of the Sea of Thieves, players visiting the Sunken Kingdom may experience visual issues when swimming into the depths.

Milestones "Gold Earned"

  • Crews earning gold by cashing out the Hourglass of Destiny after a battle will find that "Gold Earned" milestones are currently not progressing.

Decreased server performance

  • Players may experience scenarios where they encounter random ping spikes during gameplay, resulting in rubber banding or client stuttering. Although the latest improvements were released in update 2.5.3, the team continues to work on further improvements for future updates.

Ranged and melee weapon hit detection

  • In high action areas, players may find themselves firing shots or landing hits that do no damage to their targets. While small improvements continue to be made available during our regular updates, we continue to research and identify further improvements to the player's combat experience.
