Fortnite developers Epic Games have already confirmed Chapter 2 Season 2's next update, the v14.40 patch - the spookiest of the season - is on its way. Here are all the changes, server downtime details, and more for the October 21st update.
It's the end of October, and in Fortnite, that can only mean one thing: the ghoulish annual Fortnitemares event is back! This Halloween-themed patch will bring everything from old creepy Fortnite enemies, Husks, as well as a mysterious resurrection.
We have a pretty good idea of what's coming in the terrifying Halloween update on October 21st; Here's everything we know about patch v.14.40 so far - starting with all the details about Fortnite's upcoming simple update.
When will Fortnite v14.40 be released?
Epic Games has officially locked the v14.40 update for Wednesday, October 21st. It is expected that downtime will begin at 8:00 Moscow time.
Expect a long downtime for patch v14.40. Fortnite matchmaking will be disabled 20-25 minutes before Halloween.
Also be aware that the patch size on PC will be "much larger than usual". Epic has confirmed that the update will take up around 27GB, but once the patch goes live, it should "significantly reduce" the size of the game on your hard drive.

Fortnite v14.40 update early patch notes
Fortnitemares are back
It's October, which means Halloween is just around the corner! Spooky season in Fortnite means "Fortnitemares", which we should see in the game soon.
The map changes for the Halloween event may not happen immediately after the release of the patch, but it means that insiders will dig up information about it soon enough.
Expect map changes, fog, and spooky new skins in Fortnitemares 2020.
There's also a chance that Midas will return to Power as a ghost after a failed device test, so that might be one thing that's revealed when the v14.40 patch goes live.
Midas' Revenge
Speaking of the return of Midas, this Halloween patch's theme has already been leaked, and it's all based on the former Fortnite villain returning with revenge.
According to leaked data, Midas will once again take over the lead in version 14.40, and this time he will have a creepy Ghost minion on his side. He will also trade in his Legendary Tommy Gun for a golden scar to turn things around a bit.
Zombies are back in a Halloween update
Fortnitemares 2020 is also about to bring back zombie huskies. Love them or hate them, Huskies are another iconic part of any Epic battle royale Halloween update.
Whether you're a fan or not, the Hive will be on the map; Fortnite data agent @Mang0e_ has detected updated versions of the Husk spawner files.
In the past of Fortnitemares, these statues have spawned all over the map.
There's a chance it might happen again, but it's more likely that they'll stay at the Outlet. The last time they appeared - during Season X - this was their hub.

Halloween Items, Consumables
The latest leaks prior to patch v14.40 have indicated that new Halloween items and consumables will be added to the game when Fortnitemares goes live on October 21st.
Several data miners, including Hypex and Tabor Hill, found references to the new riding brooms. Labeled as "wbroom" in the Fortnite code, these new items should work similarly to the Surfer's board.
The Halloween patch will also add "pepper almond", "hop drop", "candy corn", "jujube" and "thermal toffee" which boosters or power-ups can provide.
