New Fortnite Leak Reveals How Weapon Mods Will Work
After it was leaked that Epic Games was apparently experimenting with weapon mods/add-ons in Fortnite a few weeks ago, more details about the system itself have been revealed, including how it will work. when it will be implemented.
The ability to modify weapons in Fortnite is nothing new. Back in December, a famous HYPEX insider reported that the idea is currently being tested by Epic Games, but didn't go into details about how it would work. Now he has more information.
According to the miner, these mods work like attachments in other shooters. Players will be able to insert and attach new mods whenever they want, and that each attachment will act as an "item".
Presumably this means that players will be able to find different mods/attachments on the map and pick them up like other items.
Some more info about this, thanks to @FunGamesLeaks for the help:
- HYPEX (@HYPEX) January 16, 2021
- You can add the mod & drop it anytime, its planned to be an item
- Weapons have specific valid mods that work with them (based on this function "PrintValidWeaponMods")
- Weapons have multiple mod slots https://t.co/SPuyjeZj5B
In addition, HYPEX also confirmed that there is a feature related feature called "PrintValidWeaponMods" which it says means that weapons have "certain valid mods" that work with each weapon.
While not confirmed, this seems to mean that some weapons may have exclusive attachments/mods that can only be used with that weapon and not others.
Finally, he revealed that each weapon will have multiple mod slots, meaning that players won't be limited to just one attachment as they make their way through each match.
Unfortunately, no other details about the system itself have been leaked. It's impossible to tell what attachments/modifications people will see in this feature. Will players be able to attach optics, extended magazines, or stabilizers that reduce recoil/spread? Only time will tell at this stage. There is also no time frame for when the feature will appear in Fortnite, or even 100% confirmation that it will be added.
The game's current season is set to end on March 15th, so Epic may be able to squeeze out enough testing over the next few months for them to debut the feature during Season 6's launch, but that's purely speculation.
Of course, as soon as new details become available, you can be sure that we will let you know!
