The Witcher: Masquerade Mod Adds 8 Hours of Adventure and Mystery
For games "The Witcher » has some fan-made content and has been joined by The Witcher: Masquerade is a fantastic new mystery adventure in which Geralt must make the most of his detective skills.
Well, it's not every day (or year) you see a new custom mod for The Witcher . Yes, the original The Witcher, with clunky gameplay, clunky menus, and dubious voice acting, is still pretty enjoyable despite all that. This new adventure takes place in The Witcher 1, but describes the events that take place after The Witcher 3. Geralt returns to the outskirts of Vizima, where, as usual, you have to solve the mystery of the murder and catch the monster.
Apparently the Masquerade mod started life back in 2008 with the modding group Ifirt, known for their adventures like wedding и Merry Witchmas . It has since grown into another group called "Eler Creative" who released it with a fully voiced Polish version back in January 2020. This week, Eler posted a version with English subtitles for others to try.
The Witcher 1 custom stories have always been pretty impressive to me, turning this clunky old game into new tales that often help tell a good Geralt of Rivia story. Masquerade is no exception. You can watch the intro below or watch gameplay video, published by modders.
It all starts with Geralt taking down the ghost like the Witcher does, but the job won't be that easy. The person whose ghost he met seems to still be alive, or at least a vagrant wearing his face is roaming around. There were also murders in the outskirts that the guards want to pin on the werewolf, but as usual, Geralt is not so quick to judge the monsters.
Eler Creative says that Masquerade has references to film noir, numerous side quests, and "many secrets and rarities to discover." Based on the gameplay videos posted on the mod's page, Masquerade has at least 5 hours of adventure, probably more if you don't know what's going on inside and out like its creators.
