Best Weapons in Fortnite Chapter 2: All Types and Rarities
Epic Games completely overhauled Fortnite's weapon pool with the release of Chapter 2, so you need to know which guns you want to have in your arsenal.
We've created a list of Fortnite Chapter 2 weapon tiers ranked from best to worst.
There are currently only eight weapons in the game, Epic have implemented what they call an "optimized weapon arsenal" as each variant now has all five rarities, unlike the previous system which had limitations.
However, some weapons are still worth using in the first place, and we've ranked them from best to worst based on factors like usability, damage, reliability, and more.
This list can and will change when/if Epic adds more weapons, keeps some, and implements buffs and nerfs throughout the seasons in Chapter 2.
S-class
This is a weapon that is very important and should be picked up and stored in your inventory every match from start to finish. All five weapon rarities on this list are viable enough to use.
Assault rifle
DAMAGE
- Normal: 30
- Uncommon: 31
- Rare: 33
- Epic: 35
- Legendary: 36
The assault rifle has been with us since Fortnite was first released, and it remains arguably the most viable and consistent weapon in the game.
Its ability to fire both fully automatic and semi-automatic makes it a good choice for short, medium and long range firefights, and you always know what you're getting with this weapon.
The epic and legendary SCARs are still one of the most sought after weapons available.
Tactical Shotgun
DAMAGE
- Normal: 71
- Uncommon: 75
- Rare: 79
- Epic: 83
- Legendary: 87
So far in Chapter 2, the Tactical Shotgun seems to be the more popular choice over the Pump, as its higher rate of fire makes it more usable in the current state of firefights.
The fact that you can shoot faster makes him more forgiving of missed shots, which makes up for the lower damage.
However, with shotguns in particular, you should always go with whichever you're more comfortable with, even if it goes against the ratings on this list.
Submachine gun
DAMAGE
- Normal: 17
- Uncommon: 18
- Rare: 19
- Epic: 20
- Legendary: 21
SMGs are also an important part of the Fortnite meta, so you should always carry one in your inventory.
Chapter 2 has essentially two SMGs available under the same name - a regular SMG for the first three rarities, and a compact SMG for the last two.
The weapon's very high rate of fire and decent enough damage make it an absolute must-have as it can be a certain melee player.
A-class
The weapons on this list are still very good and important options to have in your inventory. They rank lower than the S-Class because they have qualities that make them a bit less good than higher tier weapons.
However, you shouldn't be in a hurry to drop them if you encounter an S-tier weapon, because the higher rarities of these weapons are probably not much better than the lower rarities listed above.
Pump Action Shotgun
DAMAGE
- Normal: 70
- Uncommon: 80
- Rare: 90
- Epic: 100
- Legendary: 110
For some reason, the pump shotgun fell behind the tactical shotgun in popularity today in Chapter 2: Season 1. However, it's still a more than good enough option, and you should definitely pick one if you find yourself without a shotgun.
It has a very wide damage range when comparing five rarities, so it's one of those weapons worth upgrading if you find map upgrade workbench.
While its lower rarities might not be as strong if you come across an Epic or Legendary version, they can be good enough to even be preferred over Tactical despite a significantly slower rate of fire.
Explosive Assault Rifle
DAMAGE
Normal: 27
Uncommon: 29
Rare: 30
Epic: 32
Legendary: 33
The Explosive Assault Rifle is an interesting weapon because its Epic and Legendary versions feature brand new designs never seen before in Fortnite.
It's definitely a very useful and good option, but the fact that it does less damage and bursts makes it a bit less reliable than a regular AR.
B-class
These are reliable options to have and will help you get results. However, they are not critical, so you shouldn't hesitate to trade them for a more valuable item.
rocket launcher
DAMAGE
Normal: 70 (4.7)
Uncommon: 85 (4.1)
Rare: 100 (3.6)
Epic: 115 (3.1)
Legendary: 130 (2.5)
One of the most notable changes when it comes to weapons in chapter 2 is that the rocket launcher has become much more common, mainly due to the fact that there are now lower rarities.
As always, the launcher is a very versatile weapon, as it can be used both to destroy a large number of builds at once, and to deal serious damage to enemies.
However, it's not as important as the higher tier weapons on this list, and given that inventory spaces are capped at five, it's not something you should always be looking to pick up.
This is especially true of the lower rarities, which simply don't do enough damage and take too long on cooldown to be effective.
C-class
The weapons on this list are average and should only be carried if there are no better alternatives. They are generally limited in their use, which means they cannot be used in more than one way.
However, they can still be viable if used correctly, especially higher rarities, so feel free to use them like other comparable weapons until you find a better option.
Pistol
DAMAGE
Normal: 24
Uncommon: 25
Rare: 26
Epic: 28
Legendary: 29
The Pistol will probably always be a mid-range weapon, as it's not really something you want to carry around in the fight phase of matches.
However, it can still knock out at close range, especially for those with a good trigger finger, and should be considered a poorer alternative to the SMG until you find it.
The cream of the crop for this class are epic and legendary variants that also feature designs that are new to Fortnite.
Sniper rifle
DAMAGE
Normal: 95 (3.3)
Uncommon: 100 (3.2)
Rare: 105 (3.0)
Epic: 110 (2.5)
Legendary: 116 (2.3)
Sniper rifles have always had a place in Fortnite, but they are obviously very limited in their use and only viable when engaging in long range firefights.
In the right hands, the action of a sniper can be deadly, but the rifle isn't consistent and versatile enough to warrant a higher ranking on this list, and the space it takes up in your inventory should be used for more valuable items.
Carry this weapon if you're very confident in your sniping ability, and even then you should really only go for epic and legendary options, as other rarities don't do enough damage and take too long to reload.
