League of Legends Powered by Unreal Engine Looks Incredible
A League of Legends fan got a glimpse of his favorite game after recreating the map in Unreal Engine.
League of Legends is one of the biggest games in the world, and the popular MOBA often has millions of players each month.
Despite its popularity, League of Legends is not particularly known for its in-game graphics compared to many other top titles as Riot Games decided to make a game that focuses heavily on performance over visuals.
Players are already used to the classic League of Legends look, but one of the fans, Wayne S, decided to recreate the game's combat arena using the graphics capabilities of Unreal Engine.
After re-development Summoner's Rift Wayne posted a video in which he talked about the many changes and updates he made to the map and showed that he worked on the project in his spare time.
“I decided to challenge myself on a three week mini-project with a few free hours a day to make League of Legends Summoner's Rift realistic,” the developer explained.
It showcases the new map from both the top-angle perspective that many have come to expect in Riot Games' MOBAs, and from a first-person perspective, giving fans a glimpse of what the game could be like in a first-person shooter.
While it gave the map a completely new look, for the most part, the design of Summoner's Rift has remained the same with three lanes and a river currently visible in the game.
“The goal here was to keep the entire design of the Summoner Rift, but completely change it from stylized to realistic, it also had to be visually appealing from both top-down and first-person,” he said. “I tried my best keep the atmosphere of the Rift with the same type of foliage you'll see in League of Legends."
Admittedly it's unlikely that League of Legends' graphics will get a similar look anytime soon, the developer's incredible remake could be an indication of what's in store for the popular MOBA in the future.
