Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 is winding down, and while Epic has yet to reveal when Season 2 will start, in-game information and leaks tell us a lot on their own. As the new chapter is about to undergo its first major overhaul, here's what we can expect from Season 2.

Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 2 start date

Next season of Fortnite is likely to start March 20 2022. The reason we can assume this is because the current Battle Pass expires on March 19th according to the in-game Battle Pass menu. This would set the start date of the new season to Sunday, which is consistent with the latest seasons. Epic seemed to enjoy ending the season on Saturday and starting the new season the next day.

However, there may be increased downtime between seasons. Occasionally, Fortnite will crash for a day or more while a major new season update is being applied. If that's the case this season, Fortnite will likely return later this week, so you can expect it to return to normal within a few days of March 19th.

Fortnite Season 1 Final Event

With the end of each season, many players look forward to the final event. While not every season of Fortnite has an event, most of them end up epic. We almost always know about this in advance thanks to leaks. However, as of now, data miners have not found any sign of the season finale event in the game files. This can mean one of two things:

1. There is no final event, and the bridge between seasons will take place with no more than typical downtime.
2. There will be a live event and a future game update will include links to it.

The dataminers suspect that this season was the last update, so they believe there will be no final event, but it's not too late for the game to get another patch - patches usually come out on Tuesdays - that may include information for the final event. We'll update this article if new information suggests an event is on the way.

Fortnite Chapter Season 1 Story Brief

This season has revolved around The Seven and The Imagined Order, especially with Paradigm, a deposed member of the Seven who may be the key to defeating I.O. before he can regain his dominance over the island. If anything, that's the opinion of The Scientist, who spent the entire season trying to convince the rest of the masked group to let Paradigm rejoin the group.

At the end of Chapter 2, the Founder and Jonesy successfully flipped the island to defeat the Cube Queen, and in doing so also sent Dr. Sloan to oblivion. Deep below the island's surface, Artemis Sloan and I.O. are drilling into the ground in an attempt to reappear and presumably attack the Seven.

The teachings appeared all over the island, and slowly but surely the IO re-established something of a foothold, albeit still contested. Rumors of the War of the Seven and Season 2 IO also indicate that the next season will focus on these two factions taking control of the island. IO wants to control the Loop, while Seven seeks to break it. It is likely that players will find themselves at the center of this fight and may even have to choose a side.

There is speculation how the story will change gameplay in season 2, with things like tanks, airship and vehicle modding further pointing towards all-out war on Artemis. You can bet we'll have full coverage of these new features and more once the season goes live later this month.
