Mark Overmars' FUT ICON card removed from FIFA 22 following harassment allegations

EA is never shy about taking action when it comes to the real world of football. If a player dies unexpectedly, their cards are removed from the game out of respect for the player.

Likewise, if a player does something inappropriate or out of the ordinary, EA quickly reprimands them by removing their cards from circulation - as was the case with Mason Greenwood. The recent allegations against Mark Overmars have left EA no choice but to remove any new versions of the European football legend's cards from FIFA Ultimate Team.

Allegations have been made that Mark Overmars sent inappropriate messages to female employees associated with Ajax. These allegations of harassment did not go unnoticed and Overmars subsequently stepped down as Director of Football at Ajax.

In response to the accusations, Mark Overmars issued a statement: “I am ashamed. I didn't realize I was crossing a line with this, which has become clear to me in recent days. I'm sorry. For someone in my position, this behavior is unacceptable. Too late. I see no other choice but to leave Ajax.

The domino effect for FIFA 22 has been apparently confirmed in a tweet from a very reputable FIFA 22 Ultimate Team source FUTSheriff: "Mark Overmars will be SUSPENDED from Ultimate Team due to allegations of harassment against him that removed him from the Ajax board of directors. He will be removed from the Packs and Drafts."

While EA has yet to release an official statement, FUTSheriff regularly releases upcoming SBC leaks and insider information that usually turns out to be true.

Presumably anyone who already owns a version of their ICON card will retain ownership of the card for use. But in the future, none of his Base, Mid, or Prime ICON cards will be available to receive in FIFA packs. Also, when a player tries to create a draft team, none of these cards will show up for selection.

Considering these are allegations and no official verdict has been issued, there is always the possibility of reinstating the status of the former player in FIFA 22.
